Jim King, Spede Pasanen, is the wealthy owner of a toy company whose aggressive contract poaching keeps him at odds with Krakström, his chief rival. The feud grows more personal when King begins dating Krakström’s daughter, Sylvi Krakström, Tamara Lund.

Facing rising taxes that eat into profits as the company expands, King schemes for a tax break by hiring the country’s top gangster, Nitti (Risto Aaltonen), to crack the safe. His dutiful Treasurer, Kamreeri, Vesa-Matti Loiri, keeps the safe secured just as the crime is about to occur, derailing the scheme.

When the theft hits the headlines, Krakström considers collecting the insurance on a painting in his office and, by sheer coincidence, hires the same gangster to carry out the crime. The painting, however, ends up being returned to Krakström against his wishes thanks to Jim’s well-meaning intervention.

Krakström also schemes to fake his daughter’s kidnapping to access Jim’s money, but Jim counters by duplicating the ruse to reclaim the funds.

Amid the chaos, the Treasurer unexpectedly comes into a large surplus of cash, though all money has been deposited in the bank. He spends on driving lessons, a new car, hygiene products, and even posts an advertisement to find a partner, not realizing that the cash boxes actually contain his sandwich-making materials.

In a final desperate gambit, Krakström hires Nitti to rob a bank, drawing Jim into the pursuit as Sylvi uncovers that about 500,000 marks are missing. The stash turns out to be the same funds the Treasurer had misused, and Nitti decides to complete the original plan. Jim tries to return the money to the bank, but the plan unravels when Nitti is foiled with laughing gas. The police arrest Nitti, Krakström, Jim and their associates; Nitti’s bag is opened to reveal nothing but cash boxes filled with the Treasurer’s sandwich gear.

Ultimately, Jim and Sylvi marry, and in a gesture of goodwill Jim writes Krakström a check to save his company.
