Marie, now approximately forty years old, has a troubled past as a terrorist. Recently released from prison for bank robbery, she struggles to adjust to life outside, particularly in closed environments. Meanwhile, Baptiste, a spirited young woman in her twenties, is eager to take on multiple challenges, grappling with various adversaries—including lion statues scattered throughout Paris and the captivating eyes found on advertising posters. Her resolve is further fueled by her karate skills and a firm belief in fate. Their fateful encounters increase, and during their third meeting, Baptiste declares, > “twice may be coincidence, but three times, that’s destiny.” This leads her to decide to stay with Marie.
Marie reaches out to her old friend Julien, who professes his lingering love for her, yet remains elusive about his activities, leaving Marie with a sense of unease despite her persistent inquiries. In a twist of fate, Baptiste comes across Julien’s briefcase, filled with old newspaper articles covering murders and political intrigue, along with a perplexing map of Paris that later reminds Marie of the game “Goose.”
As tensions rise, Marie learns that a figure Baptiste has labeled a “Max” seems to be following Julien, raising alarms about her own safety—dangers she is reluctant to fully acknowledge. The story takes a darker turn when Baptiste mistakenly believes a young man to be a “Max,” leading her to kill him. In a climactic moment, Marie confronts Julien, only for him to turn the gun on her.
In the final act, the first “Max” who warned Marie attempts to connect with Baptiste, yet she spurns him. Ultimately, he manages to approach her, offering guidance on enhancing her martial arts technique, hinting at an unexpected mentorship as the web of their lives becomes increasingly intertwined.
