Law of the Badlands

In 1890 Washington, Captain McVey of the Texas Rangers is tasked by the Secret Service to help break up a counterfeiting ring in the Texas Badlands. He orders Dave and Chito Rafferty to pose as criminals and infiltrate the operation. Chito bids farewell to Velvet, signaling the personal stakes of the mission.

On the way to Badland, Dave and Chito steal gold from the gang that had just held up a stagecoach. The theft gives them money to present as criminals once they reach Carlton's operation. It tests their cover and readiness for the dangerous work ahead.

Dave and Chito arrive in Badland, Texas and enter Cash Carlton's bar. They stop Madigan from robbing Carlton, maintaining their undercover criminal personas. The bar becomes a focal point for Carlton's counterfeiting scheme and the gang's attention.

Durkin and Benson, two gang members from the stagecoach job, confront Dave and Chito to take back the gold. Carlton intervenes and offers Dave and Chito a place in his counterfeit operation. Accepting the offer would tie them to the gang's criminal network.

Carlton's engraver Simms grows suspicious of the newcomers and their story. Carlton pays Dave and Chito for the stolen gold with counterfeit money, signaling the scale of the illegal operation.

Leaving Carlton's premises, Dave and Chito notice a man lurking in the barn. The man, Burt Conroy, is a Secret Service undercover agent who apologizes for striking Chito and briefs them on the gang's counterfeiting activities.

Conroy uses a carrier pigeon to warn Captain McVey of the raid. McVey and his Rangers intercept the gang during an attack on a newspaper office, killing two gang members in the ensuing gunfight.

The gang suspects Dave and Chito of being informants, but Carlton doubts them and believes someone else in town is undercover. Dave and Chito warn Conroy that only a carrier pigeon could deliver messages fast enough to reach McVey. As Conroy rides out of town, Carlton shoots him.

Dave and Chito return to Carlton's barn and see Simms hauling blank paper. They break into Simms' feed store and discover counterfeit cash stored in grain sacks, though the printing plates remain hidden when Simms returns.

Chito returns to the bar where Velvet, hired as a showgirl by Carlton, recognizes him and inadvertently reveals his true identity. A gunfight erupts as Dave and Chito escape, heightening the risk of their cover being blown.

Dave and Chito lure Carlton and Simms to Simms' store by staging a fire, where Carlton reveals the location of the printing plates. The gang arrives and a tense gunfight erupts, with Carlton escaping amid the chaos.

Captain McVey and his Rangers arrive to arrest the gang just as Dave and Chito run out of ammunition. Velvet storms off in anger at Chito posing as a criminal, and Chito quips that he is through with women before unexpectedly pursuing another.
