Law of the Badlands

Chito Rafferty is Dave's quick-witted sidekick and undercover partner. He brings humor and resilience to the dangerous undercover work while remaining loyal to Dave. Chito's ingenuity helps the Rangers avert traps and uncover clues, including using a carrier pigeon to send an alert.

Cash Carlton is the bar owner who serves as the mastermind behind the counterfeiting operation. He manipulates others to secure the printing plates and attempts to control Dave and Chito with threats and deception. Carlton is ruthlessly revealed when he kills the undercover agent Conroy before fleeing as the Rangers close in.

Velvet is Dave's girlfriend who becomes employed as a showgirl by Carlton's gang. Her presence complicates the undercover operation when she recognizes Chito and reveals his identity to the criminals, putting the Rangers' mission in jeopardy.

Burt Conroy is a Secret Service agent working undercover as a blacksmith. He unknowingly plays both sides, warning Dave and Chito about the gang while communicating via carrier pigeon to alert Captain McVey. He becomes a sacrificial figure in the investigation when Carlton kills him.

Badland, Texas is depicted as a rough, pernicious frontier hub featuring stagecoaches, saloons, and murky loyalties. The town serves as the operational base for the criminal counterfeiting ring, with an atmosphere where trust is scarce and danger lurks around every corner.

The Texas Rangers work in coordination with federal agents to intercept the counterfeit ring.
