Latte and the Magic Waterstone

During a brutal drought, the woodland community must conserve every drop, storing water in pumpkins. An elderly crow declares that the drought stems from the theft of a magical waterstone, and the forest believes water can be restored by reclaiming it. Latte, an orphaned hedgehog who is treated as an outcast, volunteers to undertake the mission herself.

Latte volunteers to retrieve the waterstone from King Bantur. The townspeople remain skeptical of a hedgehog, but Latte is determined to prove herself.

On the dry riverbank, a beaver helps Latte and Tjum by guiding them toward the White Mountains and fending off a lynx with a heavy log. The pair press on, spurred by Latte's resolve to complete her mission despite the dangers.

That night, Greta the fire-bellied toad lets Latte and Tjum shelter in her cave and provides food and water. She explains what the waterstone is and warns that wolves, led by Lupo, are also pursuing it.

In the morning Greta hands Tjum a bag of waterberries to quell thirst and urges careful rationing. Not long after, a pack of wolves corners them, but Latte reveals the mission to reclaim the waterstone and the wolves let them go.

During the second night on the trail, Latte admits she is not a real princess. Tjum is unsurprised and remains supportive of her quest.

The next morning, Tjum announces he plans to return home, urging Latte to join him, but she refuses to abandon the quest without the waterstone. They argue over the waterberries they own and accidentally destroy them, strengthening their separation.

Lost and away from Latte, Tjum stumbles into bear territory where he meets Amaroo, a young bear cub who offers to help and reveals his royal lineage as the bear prince. When trying to leave the cave, their exit is blocked by guards and Tjum is captured.

Latte attempts another route into the bear cave and meets an elderly antisocial hedgehog who prophesies a lonely death for hedgehogs but spurs her on. While sneaking in along the river, she is captured by guards and ends up in a cell with Tjum.

The captives are brought before King Bantur, who finally admits stealing the waterstone. Taking advantage of his distraction, Latte and Tjum steal the waterstone from its wedged rock and begin their escape back toward the White Mountains.

As they run, they are ambushed by Lupo, King Bantur, and the lynx, but Tjum distracts their pursuers while Latte returns the waterstone. A sudden flood washes them away, and an elderly crow rescues them and returns them to the drought-stricken forest.

Back at the community, water is restored and Tjum's father offers to adopt Latte, which she accepts. A reformed King Bantur watches Amaroo perform acrobatic water tricks, signaling a hopeful change for the forest.
