Last Woman on Earth

Harold Gern, a successful New York businessman, vacations in Puerto Rico with his wife Evelyn as he faces ongoing legal trouble. They are joined by Harold’s lawyer Martin Joyce to discuss the latest indictment. The holiday begins with a fragile sense of normalcy and a tension-filled undercurrent about the trials ahead.

During a boat trip, they test newly bought scuba equipment and decide to venture into the sea. When they resurface, they realize they cannot breathe without the tanks, suggesting a dangerous malfunction. Returning to the boat, they find Manuel the crewman dead, apparently from asphyxiation.

With air running low, they row ashore and enter the jungle in search of safety. They move deeper into the vegetation as their supplies dwindle. The group confronts the unfamiliar, potentially life-sustaining wilderness around them.

Lost in the peril of dwindling air, they discover that the foliage seems to emit oxygen they can breathe. This odd phenomenon reshapes their strategy, making the jungle their new source of life. They begin to exploit the local environment, even as the mystery of the air grows.
