Lassie Come Home

Due to financial hardships, Sam Carraclough is forced to sell his beloved collie, Lassie, to the Duke of Rudling. This decision devastates his son, Joe, who is unaware of the sale and anxiously waits for Lassie after school.

When Joe's parents finally break the heartbreaking news about Lassie's sale, he is inconsolable. This moment marks the beginning of Joe's emotional turmoil as he grapples with losing his best friend.

Despite her new circumstances at the duke's kennels, Lassie manages to dig her way out and makes her way to Joe's school at their usual meeting time. Joe is elated to see her, but his joy is short-lived as he and his parents must return her.

Lassie escapes once again from her pen, prompting Joe to hide with her in a desperate effort to keep them together. Unfortunately, their hiding spot is discovered by Sam, who insists on returning Lassie to the duke.

At the duke's luxurious estate, Joe feels a bit comforted by Priscilla, the duke's kind granddaughter. She reassures him that she will take care of Lassie, though Sam delivers a sobering message about Lassie's future.

In Scotland, Lassie endures cruel treatment from Hynes, the duke's dog keeper. After witnessing Hynes' harshness, Priscilla takes a stand and enables Lassie's escape by opening the gate.

Once free, Lassie begins her long trek back to Joe, instinctively heading south towards England. She braves harsh weather and dangerous encounters, including narrowly escaping being shot by two shepherds.

Exhausted and nearly collapsing, Lassie is taken in by the elderly Fadden couple. However, as she repeatedly whines to go outside at the same hour each afternoon, Dally realizes that she longs for something beyond their home.

After leaving the Faddens, Lassie encounters a tinker named Rowlie Palmer. With Rowlie, she finds companionship and participates in performances, showcasing the talents he has taught her.

Rowlie and his friends, including Lassie, face danger when two thieves, Buckles and Snickers, attack them. During the skirmish, Lassie fiercely defends Rowlie after Toots, Rowlie's dog, is fatally injured.

In her desperate journey back home, Lassie jumps from a warehouse window to escape two dog-catchers, resulting in an injury. Despite her physical condition, she remains determined as she approaches her home.

Lassie arrives at the Carracloughs' cottage, dirty and weak, to the shocked joy of her family. Sam and Helen are overjoyed to have her back, realizing that their bond with Lassie is unbreakable.

Unexpectedly, the duke arrives at the Carracloughs' home, and while Sam and Helen hide Lassie, the duke offers Sam a job as his new dog keeper. This moment creates a potential path for Lassie to remain with her family.

At long last, the anticipated reunion occurs at Joe's school, where Lassie limps in before his class. Joe, filled with overwhelming happiness, runs to her, and they embrace, cementing their unbreakable bond.

In a heartwarming conclusion, Joe rides bikes with Priscilla, enjoying the company of Lassie and her new litter of puppies. Their adventure symbolizes love, friendship, and the continuation of family.
