The Rome heist went wrong when a cashier attempted to disarm Paolo Casaroli during the robbery. This forced Gabriele Ingenis to intervene and shoot the cashier to protect his partner. In the chaos, Minguzzi fired at a pursuer, and an alarm was triggered, turning the planned heist into a violent escape through the streets of Rome.

Convinced that his friends Casaroli and Minguzzi had died during the chaotic Rome heist and escape, Gabriele Ingenis took his own life with a gunshot in a cinema. Believing he was the only one left and unable to face the consequences or the loss of his partners, he chose to end his life, marking a tragic conclusion to his involvement in the crime spree.

His earlier trauma and dazed state in the opening scene foreshadow this final act of despair.

Paolo Casaroli survived the Rome heist but was severely injured. He was hospitalized while authorities closed in on the remaining members of his gang. A journalist managed to secure a brief conversation with him at the hospital, capturing a haunting exchange that would become part of his criminal legacy.

His survival sets up the final scene where he is heard singing in the hospital.

As the journalist leaves the hospital, Casaroli is heard singing the chorus of "Paquito lindo," a song borrowed from the film Fear and Sand.
