Maayaandi is very fond of his younger sister Virumaayi, and she returns his affection in equal measure. They share a close bond that frames their days in the village. This family closeness sets the emotional backdrop for what follows.

Virumaayi marries Sivanaandi from the neighboring village. Maayaandi remains fond of her, but the marriage introduces new tensions into the family. The union seeds the later conflict.

Periya Karuppu, Sivanaandi's brother-in-law, dislikes Maayaandi and actively tries to drive a wedge between them. His scheming plants mistrust and sets up the rift that fractures the family. The village atmosphere grows tense.

During a village festival, a quarrel between Maayaandi and Sivanaandi escalates. The argument splits the family and sours relations between the two sides. The celebration turns into a symbol of their growing estrangement.

Periya Karuppu's wife realizes the damage caused and commits suicide. Her death solidifies the bitterness and deepens the rift between the families. Maayaandi and Sivanaandi blame each other for the tragedy.

Sivanaandi declares that Virumaayi must cut ties with her brother Maayaandi. He forbids her from seeing him, pushing the family further apart. The once-close siblings become estranged as jealousy and mistrust take hold.

Periya Karuppu dies soon after, leaving unresolved tensions behind. His death is another turning point that hardens the feud between the villages. The community braces for further conflict.

Years pass and Maayaandi's son Seenu comes back to the village after studying in the city. He unexpectedly reunites with his cousin Pechchi, Virumaayi's daughter, and their eyes spark romance. The old wounds re-emerge as new love blooms.

Seenu and Pechchi rekindle a forbidden romance. Sivanaandi learns of their love and vows to keep them apart. He begins plotting to arrange Pechchi's marriage to his nephew to end the relationship.

Pechchi, with help from her mother, escapes from home to be with Seenu. They evade her planned wedding and keep the romance alive. The escape fuels the ongoing conflict between the two families.

A large confrontation erupts between the rival villages over the lovers. Chinna Karuppu fights Seenu, but Seenu emerges victorious, further inflaming tempers. The victory is celebrated by Maayaandi but deepens Sivanaandi's animosity.

At the fighting ground, Virumaayi pleads with Maayaandi to spare Sivanaandi's life. Sivanaandi lashes out and tries to kill Maayaandi. Virumaayi is wounded in the neck while shielding him and dies in Maayaandi's arms.
