Kidnapped

The narrative is set in the years following the Battle of Culloden (1746), when Jacobite hopes are crushed and the Highlands are under tightening British control. The era features shifting loyalties, colonial ventures in the Americas, and the tension between traditional Highland life and a new political order. It frames David and Breck’s voyage as both personal trials and a snapshot of a society on the cusp of change.

The story unfolds across the Scottish Highlands and coastal settlements, beginning at the austere House of Shaws where David Balfour comes of age. It carries the journey through Highland clans, foggy lochs, and Edinburgh’s paths, before moving to the sea and the Carolinas in the West Indies.
