Katak: The Brave Beluga

Katak is a beluga calf living in the Saguenay Fjord with his pod. His overprotective mother Marina and his grandmother tell him stories of his legendary grandfather who once defeated the killer whale Jack-Knife. The grandmother's tale plants a sense of destiny in Katak and fuels his curiosity about his lineage.

The pod is slowly dying out as belugas stop having calves. Estelle suffers a miscarriage after being stressed by the horn of a boat, heightening the pod's peril. Bosco warns that the pod may need to move south to survive the winter.

Kathak overhears talk that his grandmother's will to live could fade due to Estelle's miscarriage. He decides to embark on a dangerous journey to the Arctic to bring back his grandfather and restore hope to the pod. The plan triggers a perilous expedition with uncertain odds.

On the way toward the Arctic, Katak meets Cyrano the sturgeon who decides to accompany him. The two form an unlikely partnership and press onward into the northern waters. Their goal is to reach the Arctic and reconnect with Katak's grandfather.

Early in the voyage Katak encounters Jack-Knife, a killer whale intent on eating him after learning of the grandson who defeated him. Jack-Knife is joined by his daughter Jack-Lyn, who is a vegetarian and does not want to be a predator. Jack-Lyn chooses to help Katak and Cyrano to keep them safe.

Katak and Jack-Lyn slowly become friends as they share the perilous journey and exchange stories. Jack-Knife remains torn, torn between his predatory nature and his daughter's resolve. Jack-Lyn acts as a bridge, helping Katak and her father steer toward safety.

Lulu, Bosco, Alby and Naya learn of Katak’s disappearance and set out to find him. They track the route his new friends told them about and head toward the Arctic, determined to bring him back. The search brings the pod together with renewed purpose.

Cyrano falls sick during the journey but refuses to abandon Katak. He remains by Katak's side, offering guidance and companionship as they push onward. The partnership proves vital for both of them as the Arctic looms ahead.

Katak and Cyrano finally reach the Arctic, where Bosco's group arrives soon after. An iceberg collapses, causing a separation from Alby and forcing the groups to regroup. Katak and Cyrano manage to locate Alby and bring him back to join the mission.

The water around them freezes into a treacherous ice field and strands the whales with little open water. Katak uses his endurance to hold his breath and locate a passage to safety. He guides the group through the peril and toward a warmer, navigable path.

A polar bear attacks the group, but Jack-Lyn and Jack-Knife come to their aid and help them escape. Jack-Knife sacrifices himself to protect Katak and the others, urging Katak to live his life on his own terms. The loss becomes a defining moment for the surviving whales.

The whales encounter another pod and Katak finally meets his grandfather, who agrees to return home with him to be with his love. The two pods decide to travel back together to increase their chances of survival. The reunion strengthens Katak and broadens the pod's sense of family.

Katak and Jack-Lyn reconnect and vow to remain friends for life, looking forward to a future where they may meet again. Jack-Lyn remains committed to not following her father into predation while supporting Katak's mission in spirit. Their bond represents a hopeful cross species friendship.

The pod returns home and Alby apologizes to Katak for bullying him earlier. The pod reconciles and welcomes the returning whales back into the fold, revitalizing the family unit. The voyage ends with a sense of peace and renewed community.

In the mid-credits scene Katak's grandmother passes away and Estelle gives birth to a daughter, completing the family cycle. Cyrano arrives to visit Katak, signaling a future of continued friendship and shared journeys. Life in the pod moves forward with new hope.
