Paramasivam Sivakumar, a wealthy village landlord, shares a home with his wife Parvathy Lakshmi. Their elder son Vetrivel Vijayakanth is widely respected in the village for his good deeds, and Gowri, Simran, the daughter of Ramakrishnan the village schoolteacher, returns from the city after completing her education. Initially, Gowri mistakes Vetrivel for an employee in Paramasivam’s household, but soon she learns that he is the son of Paramasivam. As days pass, the two begin to develop genuine affection for each other, and Paramasivam and Parvathy quietly nurture hopes of uniting them in marriage.
Subramani [Karan], Vetrivel’s younger brother, arrives back in the village after his studies, bringing a fresh current of emotions to the family. One day, while a group of villagers gather near a waterfall for a look at the spray and the scenery, Subramani slips from a nearby rock and slips into danger. Gowri hears the commotion and rushes to the spot with others, pulling Subramani to safety. This incident awakens Subramani’s affection for Gowri, and he bluntly expresses his desire to marry her to Vetrivel. Moved by loyalty to his family, Vetrivel shows remarkable generosity and decides to let Subramani marry Gowri first, even though Gowri’s heart seems to lean toward his elder brother.
The moral and emotional tangle deepens as Paramasivam and Parvathy become torn between family duty and affection. Meanwhile, Chinna [Charle], a worker in Paramasivam’s home, drinks one evening and blabs to the elders about Vetrivel’s sacrifice for his brother. The revelation leads Paramasivam and Parvathy to consider a new arrangement: Rasathi, a relative of Parvathy, should be married to Subramani as a way to honor familial obligations and appease the wider village. But Rasathi’s father Maniyaandar [Anandaraj] and her grandfather Angaala Thevar [Radha Ravi] hold a long-standing vendetta against Parvathy and Paramasivam, and their opposition immediately casts a shadow over the plan.
Amidst the rising tension, another village figure, Kaduvetti Karuppusamy [Ponnambalam], does not trust Vetrivel and stirs trouble by hinting that Vetrivel and Gowri’s relationship could be illegitimate. Subramani, who has swept Gowri into a whirlwind of change, is deeply unsettled by the insinuations and confronts Vetrivel. The family is pressed from all sides: internal loyalties, old feuds, and the fragile future of Gowri and Subramani’s budding marriage.
A dramatic flashback uncovers the roots of the strife. In the past, Vasudevar Ayya, a wealthy man in the village, supported Paramasivam when he was a driver in Parvathy’s home, enabling their unlikely union. This act enraged Angaala Thevar and Maniyaandar, who then attempted to kill the couple. Vasudevar Ayya intervened but was killed in the clash, and in the aftermath, he orders his son Vetrivel and the family’s future to be entrusted to Paramasivam and Parvathy, while expelling the lovers from the village. The revelation casts new light on the present-day tensions and the responsibility that weighs on Vetrivel and Gowri.
As the situation spirals, Gowri’s pregnancy becomes a turning point. The family doctor confirms that Gowri is not pregnant, a twist that brings relief but also clarifies the earlier misperceptions. Subramani, realizing the damage caused by his earlier doubts and harsh words, apologizes to both Vetrivel and Gowri, acknowledging the sacrifices that have shaped their paths.
In the end, the gate to reconciliation opens. Gowri’s steadfast respect for Vetrivel’s wishes leads her to support a union between Vetrivel and Rasathi, a union she believes will honor her partner’s noble heart and the family’s long-suffering history. With Gowri’s blessing, Vasudevar Ayya’s legacy, and the stubborn love that survives through feuds and misunderstandings, Vetrivel finally marries Rasathi, and Parvathy’s father’s approval is won, sealing a new chapter for the family and the village alike. The tale closes on a note of restored harmony, where duty, affection, and forgiveness converge to lay a hopeful path for the future.
