Hina lives at home with her visually impaired sister-in-law Sakina after her husband Saqlain leaves Bahrain eight years ago to seek better prospects. He never returns, leaving Hina to carry the family burden and wait for his return. The absence creates a steady undercurrent of longing that shapes her daily life.

With Saqlain gone, Hina's days become a restrained routine under Sakina's watch. The fear of losing more stability lingers, while the house remains a space of guarded hope. Their uncertain situation colors every interaction and choice they make.

Hina joins other girls from the neighborhood to work as muses for Zeenat, the painter. Zeenat's life carries restlessness, and her marriage to Malik Nadir is beset by a lack of children, adding tension to the household. The arrangement introduces Hina to new ambitions and enmeshed relationships.

One day, upon returning from Zeenat's house, Hina slips into a lake and is rescued by a man named Amaltas. The encounter feels fated, and the pair quickly connect. Hina begins spending most of her time with him, drawn by the new, dangerous intimacy.

A few days after meeting Amaltas, Hina goes to Zeenat's house with Sakina, where an aalima explains that a woman whose husband is unknown may remarry only after completing her Iddah. Sakina becomes furious and forbids Hina from working there any longer, deepening the rift between them.

Days later, Zeenat comes to Hina's home with a marriage proposal from her husband for Hina. Sakina lashes out at Zeenat and later physically beats Hina, accusing her of infidelity and suspecting an affair with Malik. The confrontation intensifies the family tensions.

Sakina decides to marry Hina off to Malik Nadir and reveals that Saqlain died in an accident after leaving for Bahrain. She locks Hina up to prevent her from leaving until the Iddah period is over, enforcing control over her future.

Frustrated, Hina sets the room on fire with kerosene to escape. She runs away to elope with Amaltas, only to discover that the cabin is empty and that Amaltas never existed as a real person. The illusion begins to crack.

Back at the home, Hina finds that Amaltas's painted handprints on the door have vanished, signaling that he was not real. She returns to Sakina's world and processes the collapse of the dream she chased.

Hina's world seems to burn away as Zeenat burns polaroids—including those of Amaltas—while the house slowly catches fire. The destruction marks a cleansing of memory and fantasy that could never be sustained.

Sakina tells the folk tale of Princess Harmala as Hina approaches a small balcony pool and slowly submerges herself in the water. The film presents two interpretations: Hina imagined Amaltas, or Amaltas is a ghost who appears to desperate women.
