Kabaddi 4: The Final Match

Kaji, Dayahang Rai, reaches a turning point when the hope of finding a bride fades and he chooses a life of solitary discipline as a monk. Yet his family has other plans in mind. His father contemplates remarriage to preserve the family line, while his mother turns to two of Kaji’s closest allies—Chhantyal Buddhi Tamang and B.K. Bijay Baral—to bring him back home. They locate him, and the mother makes a unequivocal plea: return to the fold, or she will take drastic action herself. The threat of her potential self-harm shakes Kaji, and he returns to his duties as the school’s chairman, choosing to confront the new reality rather than retreat into solitude.

In the village, a new presence arrives at the school: Shanti Miruna Magar, a teacher with a quiet warmth and a knack for challenging Kaji’s reserve. She immediately makes her presence felt with a light, teasing spark, flirting with him in ways that he consistently brushes off. Despite his defenses, the tension between them lingers, hinting at a growing, complicated attraction that neither fully acknowledges.

Meanwhile, Bam Kaji [Saugat Malla] returns to the village with a master’s degree in mathematics and a clearer sense of what he wants from life. His parents press him to marry, drawing on his ex-wife Maiya’s departure as a cue that it’s time for him to settle down. He rejects the idea that any woman in the village is truly worthy of him, and despite his plans to return to the city, a chance encounter with Shanti sparks a new, surprising attraction. He asks his father to help him secure a job in the same institution where Shanti teaches, and soon he becomes the math instructor there, setting the stage for a complex triangle of loyalties, competition, and longing.

The dynamics between Kaji, Bam Kaji, and Shanti become more tangled as Shanti invites a few days off to visit her mother in a distant village and asks Kaji to accompany her. He initially declines, but his mother insists that he help ensure Shanti’s safety on the journey, given the distance and his responsibilities. The trio sets off: Bam Kaji joins them on horseback, and after a long walk, Shanti asks him to ride with her, a request he readily grants. They arrive at Shanti’s home to find that her mother is the only family left. She speaks with both of them and makes it clear she has no concerns about their relationship, a statement that leaves Kaji more puzzled than reassured. To his surprise, Shanti hands him a letter bearing his name, and he jokes that it seems to be a love letter. When he returns home and opens it, he discovers the letter was written by Bam Kaji, but B.K. had removed the word “Bam” and left only “Kaji” on Shanti’s desk. Bam Kaji never asks for a reply to the letter; he simply wants Shanti’s response, and she promises he will receive it.

The situation at the school deteriorates when Bam Kaji, in a drunken rage, tries to eliminate Kaji as a romantic obstacle. His father intervenes, violently rebuking him for planning harm against his cousin over a woman. The two men head to Shanti’s home to argue for her hand in marriage, but Shanti refuses Bam Kaji’s advances outright. Faced with rejection and desperation, Bam Kaji resorts to a drastic plan: he abducts Shanti with the intention of forcing a marriage that tradition would deem acceptable.

News of the kidnapping reaches Kaji, and his father emphasizes that Bam Kaji has shown what it means to be a “real man,” a line that deeply unsettles Kaji as he confronts his own love for Shanti. The wedding bells for Bam Kaji and Shanti ring in the air, but chaos erupts when a dead body is discovered in the yard, forcing everyone to rush outside. Seizing the moment, Kaji and Shanti flee the scene together. Bam Kaji charges after them, only to discover that the two people who claimed to be Kaji and Shanti were actually B.K. and Chhantyal, disguised to stage a dramatic misdirection.

As the truth unfolds, Bam Kaji’s fury gives way to a sense of loss as he watches Kaji and Shanti walk away hand in hand. Shanti looks to Kaji and, in a quiet moment, asks him to propose—yet Kaji responds with a restrained calm, suggesting there is no need for words because she should already know what they share.

In the end, the story centers on the friction between tradition and personal choice, the stubborn pride that sometimes accompanies love, and the fragile balance between family duty and individual happiness. The film follows Kaji’s evolving understanding of what it means to be connected to others, even when solitude and personal conviction once seemed like safer paths, and it presents a nuanced portrait of loyalty, desire, and the costs of living by rules that may no longer fit the world around them.
