KC, the company CEO, asks Chris to accompany emerging pop singer Samantha James to Paris so she can sign with their label. He reluctantly agrees, sensing it may complicate his life but hoping for a strategic win.

Samantha accidentally sets her private jet on fire, forcing an emergency landing in New Jersey near Chris's hometown. The detour pulls Chris back toward the life he thought he left behind.

During a friendly ice skating outing, Chris injures himself while playing hockey and is carried away by an ambulance. Jamie watches, rekindling their complicated feelings for each other as memories resurface.

At the scene, Dusty Dinkleman, a paramedic and former high school classmate, appears and reveals that he still loves Jamie. His reappearance sets up a rival in love and adds tension to the love triangle.

Realizing Dusty only seeks revenge sex, Chris tries to warn Jamie; the confrontation escalates as he violently attacks Dusty in front of Jamie. The moment drives a wedge between Jamie and Chris and complicates their reunion.
