In 18th-century Brazil, a Portuguese colony facing dwindling gold reserves, a rigid and corrupt society is maintained by a ruling minority. Joaquim, a skilled soldier known for his success in capturing gold smugglers, seeks a dangerous mission to discover new gold mines. His motivation is deeply personal: to secure the freedom of Blackie, a slave with whom he is in love. The story draws inspiration from the life of Tiradentes, a key figure in the early Brazilian revolutionary movement.
