In 1901, a man enters a forest shack to confront a waiting jinn. He recites an Arabic prayer to shield himself as he nears, attempting to bargain for the release of a kidnapped girl. The jinn refuses his request and attacks, and the man finally douses the creature with holy water. The jinn swears vengeance, vowing to slaughter the man's bloodline for generations to come.

113 years later, Shawn and Jasmine are a happy couple living in Michigan. Shawn receives an early birthday package containing a note and a VHS tape left by his father. The message warns that strange things may start happening and that he must seek helpers to prepare for battle against unknown forces. It explains that if this tape has reached him, his father has failed to protect the family and Shawn must prevail to ensure their survival.

That night, the couple's home is rearranged with heavy furniture stacked in unusual ways and Jasmine vanishes, triggering a frantic search. Shawn contacts the police, and fear escalates as strange phenomena plague their house. When Jasmine reappears, their sense of safety is shattered and they realize they are being targeted by a malevolent force.

Shawn and Jasmine encounter Father Westhoff and Gabriel, who explain the jinn's existence and the danger they represent. Shawn remains skeptical, but their tale aligns with the strange events they've experienced. Westhoff urges Shawn to seek more guidance and to uncover the truth from trusted sources.

Shawn visits his adoptive parents and hears corroborating stories about the jinn that have plagued their family. An unseen force attacks and abducts Jasmine, underscoring the immediacy of the threat. The encounter heightens the urgency to learn how to fight back.

Shawn and Gabriel flee to seek help from Ali, Shawn's estranged uncle, who shares the family history and tests. Using supernatural power, Ali reveals that Jasmine is pregnant and warns Shawn that to save his family he must pass the Chilla—the Physical, Mental, and Spiritual test. Ali senses the jinns spying on them, adding to the danger.

During the pursuit, Gabriel sacrifices himself to shield Shawn from the jinn's attack. It is revealed in the chaos that Gabriel is a jinn, and he dies in the ensuing confrontation. The revelation deepens the threat and the personal stakes for Shawn.

With Father Westhoff's guidance, Shawn learns the reason the jinn target him and what it will take to defeat them. Westhoff sends him on a quest to acquire the knowledge, tools, and allies needed for the final confrontation. Shawn accepts the burden and embarks on the journey.

Shawn lures the jinn to a scheduled battleground where the final fight will occur. The jinns unleash physical tortures and mental deceptions, but Shawn endures the Chilla and survives. Ali fights alongside him as they confront the ancient foe.

Shawn confronts the main jinn from the great-grandfather's clash and battles alongside Ali. The other-dimensional jinns arrive seeking peace, but Shawn destroys one to warn the others. The fight ends with the primary threat defeated and the spirits retreat.

Father Westhoff reveals Jasmine is safe in a church, and the revived Gabriel returns. The group reunites and the threat seems finally extinguished as balance is restored.

One year later, Shawn, Jasmine, and Ali enjoy a quiet life in their apartment with their newborn son. The baby drops his pacifier, and it slides into his mouth without being touched, signaling the child's hidden power to defeat the jinn.
