Saravanan travels from Madurai to Chennai and searches for work. He ends up taking a job at a juice and tea stall where Mani is the celebrated 'tea master'. Despite being self-educated, he is well-read and curious about life.

Anandhi abandons him, citing his meagre existence, which drives Saravanan into a deep depression. The rejection shatters his hopes and pushes him toward desperation.

In a moment of desperation, he schemes to rob his landlady Sivagami and uses the opportunity to frame a neighbor he dislikes. The plan leverages his accumulated knowledge, showing how far he is willing to go.

After the robbery, the misfortunes that befall Sivagami begin to echo in Saravanan's life. He realizes the eerie parallel and resolves to prevent his sister from facing the same fate.

Mani recalls a flashback showing the jewel bag had been swapped with another passenger's baggage on the bus. He admits he did not steal the jewels, revealing the truth behind the earlier accusations.

A final twist reveals the passenger who took the bag of jewels was Murugan's son, traumatized by his father's police treatment, and he keeps the jewels for his young daughter. A photograph on the wall shows that Murugan's mother had been blind.
