As the narrative progresses, we follow Sebastian through a romantic journey with Ellie, a spirited woman from a wealthy background, played by Leslie Bibb. Her father, Bill, depicted by David Rasche, is a successful hotelier managing a rival hotel where Sebastian works. Ellie’s mother, Tigger, a formidable senator brought to life by Kim Cattrall, has two siblings: the charismatic Lucky, portrayed by Anders Holm, and the laid-back Doug, represented by Brett Dier. When Ellie invites Sebastian to her family’s lavish Fourth of July celebration at their summer estate, he begins to feel fully embraced by her family.

Excited for the festive occasion, Sebastian confides in Salvo about his concerns, sharing feelings of guilt regarding his mother’s absence. In a poignant moment, Ellie encourages Salvo to join in the celebrations. While Sebastian isn’t overly worried about his father’s participation, he does have apprehensions about awkward interactions with the Collins family. A humorous miscommunication occurs when Salvo unintentionally prepares one of the family’s pet peacocks for dinner, throwing a comedic obstacle into Sebastian’s joyful experience and straining the bond between father and son. Amidst the chaos, Sebastian discovers a heartfelt note from Salvo that expresses a longing to go home. Meanwhile, Ellie finds a hotel brochure featuring her artwork, which prompts her to confront her parents about their true intentions, deepening the family tension.

During a festive Christmas photo shoot, Sebastian chooses to decline Bill’s tempting job offer, opting instead to remain in Chicago with Ellie, allowing Lucky to take the opportunity. Just when their happiness seems complete, the family dog, Duke, comically returns with remnants of the wayward peacock, alleviating the earlier tension and granting both Sebastian and Salvo a moment of reprieve, leading to a cherished moment of joy for the entire family.
