Michael 'Mike' Brody, the chief engineer at SeaWorld Orlando, is introduced along with his girlfriend Kathryn 'Kay' Morgan, a senior biologist. They manage the park's operations together, showcasing their dedication and teamwork.

The lagoon gates at SeaWorld malfunction, allowing a formidable great white shark to slip into the park's waters unnoticed. This disturbing event sets off a chain of dangerous occurrences, threatening both the marine life and park visitors.

Unbeknownst to the park staff, water skiers begin to vanish mysteriously, hinting at the danger lurking within the lagoon. The anxious atmosphere grows as Kay and her team observe the resident dolphins exhibiting unusual behavior, indicating their distress.

Mechanic Shelby Overman braves the depths of the lagoon to fix the malfunctioning gates. Tragically, he becomes the shark's first victim, marking the beginning of a gruesome chapter in SeaWorld's history.

Mike's younger brother Sean arrives for summer break and meets Kelly Ann Bukowski, a spirited water skier. This encounter unfolds in a local bar, where tension intermingles with the excitement of summer adventures.

While two petty thieves attempt to steal valuable coral from SeaWorld, they inadvertently encounter the relentless shark. Their ill-fated endeavor ends in chaos, further emphasizing the danger that looms over the park.

Kay and Mike are called to investigate the circumstances surrounding Overman's disappearance. Their underwater expedition in a submersible reveals alarming clues, including a juvenile great white shark linked to the menacing predator.

In light of the mounting tragedies, Bouchard and his staff deliberate on a course of action. FitzRoyce proposes a controversial live kill of the shark, while Kay champions a humane approach to capture it alive.

The team successfully captures the shark, but it succumbs to its injuries despite Kay's best efforts. This loss amplifies the tension and urgency to address the looming threat effectively.

Kay discovers that the massive creature responsible for the attacks is the mother shark, a colossal 35-foot predator. This revelation sends shockwaves through the park as they scramble to prepare for the impending danger it poses.

In a desperate attempt to outsmart the shark, FitzRoyce and his aide Jack descend into the filtration pipe. Their gamble turns fatal when FitzRoyce meets a gruesome end at the shark's jaws, leaving the park's fate hanging in the balance.

An ill-fated decision to halt the pumps inadvertently frees the shark, allowing it to charge toward Mike and Kay. In the midst of evacuation, the dolphins emerge to save their human friends, showcasing the bonds formed between species.

In a tense climax, the shark breaks through the control room's glass, leading to even more chaos. Mike discovers FitzRoyce's lifeless body and, in a desperate move, detonates a grenade to finally eliminate the predator's reign of terror.
