Jane Got a Gun

In the stark and isolated expanse of their homestead, Jane and her husband Bill “Ham” Hammond lead a quiet life with their five-year-old daughter Katie. This fragile peace is abruptly disturbed when Ham returns home, gravely injured and filled with dread, as he reveals that the Bishop Boys, a notorious gang he was once part of, are on their way to settle the score. Jane, played by Natalie Portman, springs into action, her determination to protect her family igniting a fierce resolve.

As Jane tends to Ham’s wounds, she knows she must keep Katie safe. She quickly seeks help from Dan Frost, her former fiancé, played by Ewan McGregor. Although their reunion is marked by Dan’s initial reluctance and bitterness over their past, Jane’s unwavering spirit shines through as she gathers supplies and arms, preparing for the inevitable confrontation.

Things escalate when Jane, while leaving the general store, finds herself cornered in an alley by one of the Bishop gang members. Just as despair threatens to engulf her, Dan arrives, confronting the thug and allowing Jane the opening she needs. With newfound courage, she doesn’t hesitate to draw her own weapon, dispatching the threat with fierce resolve.

The duo then returns to their homestead, where Ham’s condition continues to deteriorate. Determined to protect their territory, Dan takes charge, confronting one of Bishop’s men who unexpectedly shows up. He goes to great lengths to fortify their defenses, creating makeshift barriers filled with deadly traps in their yard—every precaution taken to prepare for the imminent onslaught of the gang.

As the story unfolds through a series of flashbacks, we see the complex history between Jane and Dan. Once betrothed, their relationship imploded when Dan signed up to fight in the Civil War, only to be captured and left in a prison camp. Upon his return, he discovers that Jane had presumed him dead and had moved on—marrying Ham and having a child, which adds layers of tension to their reunion.

In a twist of fate, Dan learns that Jane and Ham were fleeing from the manipulative grasp of Bishop, portrayed by Joel Edgerton. This ruthless leader had plans that involved manipulating and exploiting the women in their wagon train, forcing Jane into a life far removed from the hope for a better future they all sought.

As the conflict reaches its climax, night falls over Jane’s homestead. The Bishop gang attacks, unleashing chaos with a barrage of gunfire. Thanks to their strategic defenses, Jane and Dan manage to hold their ground, igniting their traps and inflicting heavy losses on their attackers. Still, the danger isn’t over; as Ham succumbs to his injuries, Jane and Dan, despite their wounds, remain resolute.

In the chaotic aftermath of the battle, Bishop confronts Dan, leveraging the knowledge that Jane’s daughter, Mary, is still alive—a revelation that pierces through the tumult of emotions swirling in Jane’s heart. Torn between anger and the maternal drive to save her child, Jane makes a fateful decision, ending Bishop’s reign of terror once and for all.

With the gang vanquished, Jane and Dan’s priority shifts to rescuing Mary from the clutches of the local brothel. As they gallop toward a new dawn, the family is united once more, leaving behind the echoes of their harrowing past and seeking a brighter future together.
