James Tont Lando Buzzanca, Agent 007 1/2 of Her Majesty’s Secret Service, is dispatched to Trinidad to recover microfilm hidden inside an enemy agent. After performing surgery to remove the microfilm and the agent’s inflamed appendix, he is ordered to Las Vegas to contact CIA Agent Tristian Rider for further instructions.
Prior to meeting Rider, Tont crosses paths with Erik Goldsinger, a music producer who sits among the wealthiest people in the world. Goldsinger’s winning streak at the craps table relies on loaded dice, and Tont outplays him by subtly altering the spots on a die—from three to two—denying Goldsinger a chance to win back his money. Goldsinger erupts in anger, and his Oriental manservant Kayo crushes the loaded dice in his fist, scattering the powdered remnants as a quiet rebuke.
Goldsinger’s revenge comes quickly. Joyce Patterson, one of Goldsinger’s singers and a covert agent, seduces Tont, drugs him, and attempts to assassinate him by coating him in gold paint. The attempt is almost fatal but leaves Tont alive when the paint doesn’t cover him completely. The golden-Tont is soon discovered by Rider, who informs Tont that his mission is to investigate Goldsinger.
Rider sends Tont to New York City to obtain information from Barbara Ray, CIA Agent SOS 112, who is secretly working for Goldsinger as a musical director. To avoid arousing suspicion, Barbara tests Tont as a singer by having him perform in a film clip. Goldsinger, listening to the recording, is ready to sign the talented performer, but when he views the musical film he recognizes Tont as the man who defeated him at the gambling tables. Enraged, Goldsinger disciplines Joyce by sending her to Hong Kong and schemes to assassinate Tont by sending him to a studio with a lowered ceiling designed to crush him.
Tont is rescued by CIA Agent SOS 117, an intrepid white mouse who is also a ventriloquist. He is dispatched back to London, where his chief briefs him on the incomplete details of Operation April Fool/UNO (United Nations Organisation) gathered from the recovered microfilm. Goldsinger has been recruited by Red China to leverage his international music corporation to destroy the United Nations Headquarters in New York in retaliation for China being refused entry. Warnings mount that 007 3/4 will replace him if he delays or fails.
Undeterred, Tont is sent to pursue Goldsinger to his headquarters in Italy to uncover his plans to attack the United Nations. To blend in with the population, he is given the alias Giacomino Tontonati and a Fiat 500 D equipped with a multitude of secret weapons and devices. The stakes rise with each encounter, and it becomes clear that Tont’s third confrontation with Goldsinger could reshape the fate of the world.
