Jack McCall, Desperado

Jack was tried as a spy because three Confederate soldiers disguised as Yankees tricked him into revealing the location of a Union headquarters. When the deception was discovered, the Union authorities accused Jack of deliberately disclosing sensitive information to the enemy, despite the fact that he had been manipulated.

Three Confederate soldiers posed as Yankees and approached Jack during a mission. Posing as friendly Union soldiers, they gained Jack's trust and convinced him to share information about the headquarters location. This deception placed Jack in a position where he appeared to be willingly providing intelligence to the enemy.

When Bat McCall and Sergeant Bill Hickok arrived at Jack's family home to capture him, Jack's father attempted to reach for a rifle. Hickok interpreted this as a hostile act and shot him dead before Jack could escape through the back door.

While attempting to capture Jack, Bat McCall was positioned near an upstairs door inside the house. When Jack's mother appeared at the door, Bat fired unintentionally, striking and killing her. The shooting was described as unwitting, meaning Bat did not realize who was at the door when he fired.

After the shootings at the McCall home, Hickok informed Bat that he had inherited the estate and would share in its management. This declaration gave them control over the property following the deaths of Jack's parents, removing Jack from any claim to his family's land.

After the war ended, Jack asked Spargo, one of the Confederate soldiers who had originally tricked him, to testify on his behalf to prove his innocence. Spargo initially agreed to help. However, when Jack was captured again, Spargo changed sides and chose to align with Hickok and Bat instead of continuing to support Jack's quest for exoneration.

Rose Griffith became Jack's crucial ally after his capture, helping him escape so he could continue his mission to clear his name. Her assistance renewed Jack's ability to pursue the conspiracy against him and provided him with another chance to achieve justice.

After leaving Jack's former estate, Hickok, Bat, and Spargo headed to Kansas City with two objectives: to search for gold and to hatch a plan to destroy the Sioux Indians. Their scheme represented a dangerous expansion of their criminal ambitions.

Jack learned of the trio's destructive plan against the Sioux Indians and made it his mission to prevent them from carrying it out. Even though Jack had not yet cleared his name, he chose to prioritize stopping this threat to innocent people, putting himself at risk to avert catastrophe.
