Rajnandini Khandelwal, known as RJ, is Ajmer’s top student in the 12th grade, clinching the state’s top marks and earning three scholarships. Yet her success sits uneasily with a family rooted in tradition, where her father wants her to marry someone he approves of. RJ longs to continue her studies and hopes her mother will back her, but her mother crafts a hidden plan that reshapes RJ’s path. She secretly moves RJ to Mumbai under the guise of culinary training, enrolling her in college and arranging a hostel stay far from home, effectively separating RJ from the rigid expectations of her father.

At college, RJ joins the Dramatics Society (DS), which is led by Vivaan. When RJ introduces herself as Rajnandini Khandelwal, the group teases the long name, and [Vivaan] shortens it to RJ. The DS heads toward a major opportunity: a National Theatre Festival. For the festival, [Vivaan] chooses The Taming of the Shrew but vows to strip away its misogynistic elements, presenting it as The Taming of the Shrew – Reborn. This bold plan sets the stage for a collaboration that tests boundaries and forges unexpected bonds.

As RJ and [Vivaan] grow closer, she helps him soften his stance toward his demanding father and opens his eyes to a broader view of his future, including possibilities beyond the family’s rigid expectations. Their evolving connection blends friendship with a budding, unspoken romance, even as the looming real world of tradition threatens to pull them apart.

On RJ’s birthday, she and her friends—including [Vivaan]—visit her aunt’s house, but RJ’s father confronts them at the door. The homecoming reveals the depth of RJ’s distant life: he is outraged by her modern attire and socializing, and he forcesRJ back to Ajmer and arranges for her marriage to Nareshchandra. In a decisive turn, [Ravimohan] (the character) — played by Mohnish Behl — battles the pressure of the match and the mounting dowry demands, while watching the DS crew’s persistence.

Vivaan decides to accompany RJ’s family to Ajmer with the DS gang, hoping to salvage the situation and keep RJ’s dream alive. He insists that RJ resume her leading role for the final performance, even if only for that ending scene, a move that faces fierce resistance from RJ’s father. Yet the tension begins to shift as the elder man witnesses the perseverance and unity of RJ, Vivaan, and their friends.

Ultimately, the family’s stance evolves as the dowry pressure and the sense of exploitation around it weigh on everyone. RJ’s father experiences a dawning understanding that the bond between his daughter and the DS troupe offers not just support, but a path to the future RJ deserves. In a pivotal moment, the wedding with Nareshchandra is called off, and RJ is permitted to chase her passion, with the entire community behind her decision.

The play culminates in a breakthrough victory, securing first prize and bringing joy to both RJ’s and Vivaan’s families. The engagement between RJ and Vivaan becomes a hopeful prospect, and RJ is sent to New York to sharpen her natural talent for choreography, signaling a future where she can balance love, art, and ambition. The story closes with a poignant airport scene, wherefriends and family gather to bid farewell and celebrate the promise of new beginnings.
