Hibari plays Mori no Ishimatsu, a young man who becomes tangled with yakuza boss Shimizu no Jirocho, “Boss of the Tōkaidō,” and intervenes in a feud with the rival Marugame clan, serving as an avenger’s aide. Hibari mixes humor with swordplay; Wakayama gives a powerful turn as Jirocho.
