The mansion where Evie is welcomed turns out to be a cursed estate — the same place where a woman hanged herself at the film’s opening. When Evie finally meets the De Ville household, she learns that Walter, the charismatic lord, is a centuries‑old vampire. The three ancient families— the Billingtons, the Klopstocks and the Alexanders— have been sustaining his blood‑ritual for generations, and Walter intends to add Evie as his third wife, completing a bloodline that will make him and his two current wives, Viktoria and Lucy, virtually unstoppable.

During the rehearsal dinner the horror becomes explicit: a maid is torn apart and her blood is consumed by Walter and his wives as a delicacy. Later, in the wedding ceremony, the ritual calls for the bride to drink Walter’s blood and for the vampire to drink hers, sealing her fate as an immortal consort. Evie is locked in a coffin, told she may emerge only by day, while Mrs Smith – a former friend of Evie’s great‑grandmother Emmaline, the woman who ended her own life at the beginning – tries in vain to warn her.

Faced with the choice of eternal servitude or death, Evie fights back. She ignites the banquet table, severs Walter’s wrists and throws him into the flames, and slays the butler Fields who had helped the family. In the chaos Lucy pushes Viktoria onto a spear, killing both of them, and Evie kills the remaining threats. The blood‑sacrificial rite collapses, and the mansion’s nightmare is finally broken.

Escaping the burning estate, Evie returns to New York. The film’s final moments show Oliver, the English cousin who lured her into the trap, attempting to flee the country and cover his tracks. Evie and her friend Grace, still seething over his betrayal, track him down and confront him in his office, implying that they exact their own justice before the screen cuts to black.
