Idhu Namma Aalu

Gopal travels to Madras in hopes of earning money for his mother's eye surgery. A Brahmin priest compels him to impersonate a Brahmin and deceive customers by selling snacks. He joins three other priests to perform Ganapati homam in the neighboring agraharam.

At Mylapore, Srinivasa Sastri, an orthodox Brahmin priest, recognizes that Gopal is educated and seeking employment. He arranges a government clerk job for Gopal in a temple. Gopal stays in Sastri's out-house as a paying guest.

Gopal meets Sastri's daughter Banu and she is drawn to him. Gopal, however, avoids forming a relationship to preserve his deception and to stay true to his lie about being Brahmin. This budding tension foreshadows a clash between duty and desire.

Sastri helps by funding his mother's eye surgery, and Gopal remains loyal to the man who provided him opportunity. Banu's mother pushes for Gopal to marry her daughter, while Gopal privately lies that he already has a bride waiting for him. The situation deepens the emotional stakes around marriage and truth.

Banu discovers that Gopal loves her, and they share a kiss in front of their families. Sastri, though cautious at first, accepts their relationship and begins to arrange the marriage. The couple's union moves forward despite the deception.

Gopal tells Sastri that he is not actually a Brahmin, but Banu initially does not believe him. They still marry in Brahmin traditions, and Gopal's parents reveal themselves to Sastri, who demands an oath that Gopal will not live as her husband. The revelation strains the newly formed bond.

Sastri becomes furious with the deception and insists that Gopal swear he will not continue living as a husband. Gopal makes the vow, treating it as a punishment for his deceit. The orthodox elder's stance fractures the newly formed unity.

Sastri's disappointment grows, and he refuses to bless the marriage. Gopal's parents press him to remarry or accept them as his in-laws, while he declines to return to his native place. He vows to challenge Sastri and protect his chosen life with Banu.

Banu cannot stay in Sastri's house, so she seeks to meet her husband directly and is told to leave. She ends up renting a hut opposite Gopal's residence, choosing proximity over rejection and continuing their relationship.

Banu tries to provoke and seduce Gopal, testing his resolve and loyalty to their marriage. Gopal remains steadfast and refuses to consummate the relationship under the strain of the deception and societal pressure.

Gopal's father pushes for a second marriage so the family can have grandchildren. Banu seeks legal permission to allow the second marriage or to accept Gopal as her son-in-law and honor the promise. Sastri signs the document permitting the second marriage, and Gopal, uneasy about a new union, breaks the prior vow and has intimate with Banu.

Srinivasa Sastri, devastated by the turn of events, attempts to set himself on fire to secure his daughter's happiness. Gopal intervenes and saves him from the flames, revealing the depth of his actions and their consequences.

Gopal explains that he broke the promise for Banu's sake, and the couple are finally united. The revelation marks a turning point toward reconciliation and a life built on choice rather than coercion.

Srinivasa Sastri acknowledges the mistakes born from rigid orthodoxy and accepts Gopal as his son-in-law. He realizes that compassion and family welfare outweigh ritual rigidity, bringing closure to the conflict.
