I Know What You Did

On July 4, 1996 in Southport, Julie James and her friends drive home from the beach after Helen wins the beauty pageant. Barry's drunken antics cause Ray to strike a pedestrian, whom they believe is dead. They hide the body, and Barry pushes the victim into the water, after which the group swears to never speak of it.

One year later, Julie returns home for the summer and the friends remain haunted by the incident. Julie receives a threatening note reading 'I know what you did last summer!' The group grows tense as Barry suspects Max is behind the cruel message.

Max is killed by a shadowy figure in a raincoat wielding a hook, who then steals Barry's car and drives away. The surviving friends sense the killer closing in as fear escalates. The threat turns personal and immediate.

Julie digs into newspaper articles to identify David Egan, hoping for clues. She and Helen visit Missy, David's sister, under the guise that their car broke down. Missy reveals that a friend named Billy Blue visited the family to pay respects, hinting at deeper connections.

That night, the killer sneaks into Helen's house and cuts off her hair while she sleeps, sending a chilling signal that the threat is intimate and escalating. The violation heightens the paranoia among the group.

The following morning, Julie finds Max's corpse in the trunk of her car, wearing Barry's stolen jacket and covered in crabs. When she brings the others to see it, the body has been removed, showing the killer's power to manipulate evidence.

During the 4th of July parade, Missy reveals that David allegedly committed suicide out of guilt for Susie's death and shows a note that matches David's handwriting. Julie realizes the note she received is a death threat, not a suicide note, and that the man they struck might not have been David Egan.

At the Croaker Beauty Pageant, Helen witnesses Barry murdered on the balcony, and the police escort is killed en route home. Helen's efforts to seek safety are thwarted as her sister Elsa is murdered in their family store, and Helen herself is slashed to death while trying to escape.

Julie connects the original hit-and-run victim to Susie's father, Ben Willis, realizing he was the man they struck and that he sought vengeance for his daughter. Ben's motive becomes clear as he intensifies his pursuit of Julie and her friends.

Julie hides on a fisherman’s boat named Billy Blue after Ray is knocked unconscious. The fisherman is revealed to be Ben Willis, who pursues Julie as revenge. Ray regains consciousness and helps rescue her, using the boat's rigging to sever Ben's hand and throw him overboard, while confessing he had posed as David's friend and visited Missy out of guilt.

One year later, Julie is in college in Boston; as she enters the shower, the steam reveals the words 'I still know' on the shower door, and a dark figure crashes through, implying that the threat is not over and danger could follow her anywhere.
