Water spirits still linger in Prague, led by Mr. Wassermann, who forces his wife's family into servitude to protect their old riverside house. When the building is slated for demolition, they plot to drown the responsible Dr. Mrácek. He falls for Wassermann’s niece Jana, transforms into a fish, is mistaken for a German water spirit, drowns, revives, and faces bizarre obstacles like flour with ears.
