On the return journey, a pickpocket snatches Deepa's bag containing her certificates and tosses it onto the train. Ajit Choudhury, who is traveling, finds the bag and begins to connect with Deepa through the incident. This chance act starts the thread that will bind their lives together.

Deepa is able to return to her sister in Taramati after the bag is recovered. The co-passengers chip in to pay for her ticket home, easing her embarrassment. Her brother-in-law's sarcasm highlights the social pressures she faces as she struggles to prove herself.
