Kevin McCallister, a young boy from the actor Mikhail Pavlik, finds himself in the middle of a holiday chaos that changes his Christmas plans entirely. The story kicks off in a Chicago suburb, where the McCallister family is busy preparing for an exciting trip to Paris. As the night before their departure unfolds, tensions rise, especially involving Kevin and his older brother Buzz. Kevin, seen as immature by his siblings and cousins, gets into a scuffle with Buzz during dinner, causing Kate to send him upstairs to the attic to cool off. Frustrated and feeling misunderstood, Kevin wishes aloud that his family would simply vanish, not knowing that his wish might somehow come true.
That very night, a powerful windstorm causes a blackout at their house. This blackout disables the alarm clocks, leading to the family oversleeping and rushing to catch their flight. In their hurried attempt to leave, Kevin is accidentally left behind, as his family boards their rented vans without noticing he’s missing. When Kevin wakes up in the empty house, he is initially thrilled, thinking he’s finally free from family restrictions. He explores the house and quickly adapts to his independence, but his confidence is tested when he encounters an unusual neighbor, the enigmatic “Old Man” Marley, played by Sergey Styopin. Rumors paint Marley as a dangerous serial killer known as the “South-Bend Shovel Slayer,” but Kevin soon learns that these stories are untrue.
Meanwhile, in Paris, Kevin’s family realizes with alarm that he is not with them. Kate played by Evelina Bledans and the others discover that all flights back to Chicago are booked, and their phone lines are still down. Unable to contact Kevin, they split their efforts: Peter and the rest stay at his brother Rob’s apartment in Paris, while Kate stays at the airport. Eventually, Kate manages to swap tickets with a couple, allowing her to return to Chicago. On her journey home, she meets Gus Polinski, a charismatic bandleader on a polka tour, who kindly offers her a ride back with his traveling band in a moving van, in an effort to reunite with her family in time for Christmas.
Back home, Kevin finds himself battling two notorious burglars, Harry and Marv, known as the “Wet Bandits,” portrayed by Mikhail Tsapnik, who have been cutting through the neighborhood’s unoccupied houses. Kevin, realizing he’s alone and vulnerable, uses his cleverness to set up an array of creative traps from household items, turning his home into a fortress. When Harry and Marv try to rob the house, Kevin unleashes his traps, which cause them to suffer a series of comical injuries. Despite their persistence, Kevin manages to outsmart them and calls the police, who arrive in time to arrest the criminals.
Throughout this ordeal, Kevin also seeks comfort and understanding by visiting a local church choir, where he reunites with Marley, who turns out to be a kind-hearted man eager for reconciliation with his estranged son. Marley, played by Svetlana Permyakova, helps Kevin understand the importance of forgiveness and family, even as Kevin wishes for his own family to come back. Kevin’s resourcefulness pays off when he manages to lure Harry and Marv into a neighboring, previously broken-into house, where they are finally caught after Marley intervenes, knocking them out with his snow shovel.
On Christmas Day, Kevin’s initial disappointment turns to joy when his family finally returns home. Despite his earlier misgivings and the chaos he endured, he feels a renewed sense of love and connection when Kate arrives and they share a heartfelt reunion. The rest of the family, who had been waiting in Paris, also gets back together, marking a true holiday miracle. Kevin chooses to keep his adventurous encounter with Harry and Marv to himself, although Peter finds Harry’s knocked-out gold tooth, a reminder of the night’s misadventures. The film concludes with Kevin happily watching Marley reunite with his own family, emphasizing themes of forgiveness, second chances, and the true spirit of Christmas.
