Hellé, a young deaf‑mute, lives isolated in a mountainous village where she is largely ignored, except for occasional woodsmen who exploit her for their own gratification. Uneducated and unaware of moral concepts, her limited world is disturbed when, one summer, a young man comes to spend his holidays in the village.
