Heart of a Dog

In the cramped, cobblestone‑strewn districts of post‑revolution Moscow, the city throbs with the uneasy optimism of a society trying to rebuild itself. The streets are alive with whispered promises of equality, while the grand apartments of the intelligentsia serve as quiet laboratories for ideas that feel both daring and out of step with the surrounding chaos. Against this backdrop, a weary stray dog wanders the alleys, his lone survival instinct a stark contrast to the grand theories being rehearsed behind gilded doors.

The dog’s fate changes when Sharik slips into the meticulously ordered study of Professor Philippovich Preobrazhensky, a celebrated surgeon whose curiosity borders on obsession. The professor, ever the rationalist, sees in the animal a perfect subject for a bold experiment that blurs the line between beast and man.
