Haunted Mansion

The film opens at a lively party in New Orleans where astrophysicist Ben Matthias meets Alyssa, who offers ghost tours of the area. They quickly form a romantic relationship, eventually getting married after falling in love. The scene sets the tone of a ghostly and mysterious atmosphere rooted in the city’s haunted reputation.

Ben and Alyssa deepen their bond, sharing personal moments, and their relationship develops into marriage. Over the years, they experience happiness together before Alyssa’s apparent death. Ben becomes more distant and disillusional, giving up ghost tours and drinking alone.

Gabbie and her son Travis move into Gracey Manor to turn it into a bed-and-breakfast. Travis explores the mansion and encounters the ghost of a bride, which unsettles him, and they are frightened when a suit of armor walks up behind him, revealing the supernatural presence.

Gabbie’s friend Father Kent seeks Ben’s help to capture proof of ghosts at the mansion for a fee. Ben initially declines but is persuaded by the payment and arrives with a special lens designed to see dark matter, skeptical of the situation.

Ben experiences supernatural phenomena like wet footprints and an ocean in his closet, realizing he is followed by ghostly entities such as a sea captain. These strange events convince him that the mansion’s ghosts are real and dangerous.

Ben joins Father Kent and Gabbie to investigate the ghostly activity and contacts paranormal expert Professor Bruce Davis. They uncover the history of Gracey Manor, discovering it was haunted after Gracey’s wife Eleanor’s death, and their research leads to dangerous confrontations.

Harriet visits the mansion and performs a séance to communicate with the spirits, initially sensing a grieving ghost. She later returns because spirits follow her, and the group attempts to summon Gracey’s spirit, which results in a ghostly message to 'Talk to Leota'.

The group finds a crystal ball containing Madame Leota’s spirit, revealing the mansion’s dark history and how Gracey’s obsession with communicating with the dead led to a curse. Leota explains the Hatbox Ghost’s plan to gather souls to gain power and escape the mansion.

Ben enters the ghost realm to find Gracey and other trapped spirits, learning from Gracey that he blames himself for the curse. The ghost warns Ben about Hatbox Ghost’s last soul and the importance of stopping him before total chaos ensues.

Ben and Bruce create a sketch of Hatbox Ghost from memory, discovering his identity as Alistair Crump, a vengeful spirit with a dark past involving murder and betrayal. The group plans to retrieve an artifact from Crump Manor to banish him forever.

Ben, Kent, and Travis sneak into Crump Manor, discovering a skull of Alistair Crump. They face off with Crump’s ghost, who tries to trick and trap them with illusions and possession. The group fights to prevent him from gaining ultimate power.

With the help of Madame Leota and Harriet, the group successfully banishes Crump back into his grave. Ben sacrifices himself by offering his soul to save others, ensuring Crump’s defeat and freeing the trapped spirits in the mansion.

After the victory, Harriet becomes a true medium, Kent becomes an ordained minister, and Ben adopts a stray cat, Tater Tot, symbolizing new beginnings. The spirits choose to stay or cross over, and the mansion is restored as a haunted but peaceful place.

Ben hosts a party at the mansion with friends and spirits, celebrating their victory over evil. He and Travis also fulfill the ghost’s final wish by releasing his soul at the sea, symbolizing closure and peace for the spirits involved.
