Hard Rain

Tom and his uncle Charlie are ambushed by Jim and his gang; Kenny shoots Charlie dead after Charlie claims the National Guard is on the way. Tom escapes with the cash and hides it in a cemetery to keep it safe.

Tom takes refuge in a nearby church to escape the gang. Inside, Karen mistakes him for a looter and knocks him out, preventing an immediate confrontation.

Tom regains consciousness in a jail cell and tells Sheriff Mike Collig about the gang and the hidden cash. The Sheriff and Chief Deputy Bryce decide to lock him up while they investigate the situation.

Deputy Phil is ordered to move Karen out of town. Later, Karen pushes Phil out of a boat in order to return to protect the church she is restoring.

Dam operator Hank is forced to open a spillway, triggering a large wave and deeper flooding across the town. The rising water heightens danger for everyone, including those sheltering in the church.

Tom remains trapped in his jail cell as the water rises around the facility. Karen finds him, frees him, and the two hide from the gang as they navigate the flooded environment.

In the chaos of the flood and pursuit, Kenny is electrocuted, removing one of the immediate threats from the gang. The group continues to move through flooded streets and buildings.

The elderly Doreen and Henry Sears refuse to evacuate, trapping themselves in their home. Tom and Karen are mistaken for looters by the couple, and Henry ultimately lends Tom their boat so they can return to the armored truck.

Tom resurfaces from the submerged armored truck and discovers the gang holding the Sears hostage. He agrees to reveal where the money is in the hope of saving the captives.

Jim reveals that Charlie was in league with the gang and never called the National Guard; Charlie’s supposed setup was a lie. Tom learns that the money has disappeared.

Mehlor and Ray are killed in the shootout as Jim and Tom retreat to the church. Wayne takes Karen to her house intending to rape her, and attackers firebomb the church, driving their boats through the stained glass windows. Karen stabs and kills Wayne, and Hank shoots Phil for not shooting Tom.

As the dam alarm sounds, Tom faces a choice about the money and who to trust. Mike shoots Jim with a hidden revolver, Hank escapes in a boat, and the corrupt sheriff is killed in the ensuing chaos. Indiana State Police arrive to restore order, and Tom tells Karen that the church can be repaired.
