In 1953, Ainun is matched with Rudy at her Bandung school, and his infatuation begins. The early connection hints at a lifelong partnership as they pursue education and dreams side by side.

While accompanying his brother to an appointment, Rudy meets Ainun again and the two begin to fall in love. Their renewed romance sets the stage for a shared future and family.

Rudy proposes to Ainun, who accepts, and they marry. The couple moves to Aachen, Germany, where Rudy plans to finish his studies and eventually return to Indonesia to contribute to his homeland.

Ainun becomes pregnant as Rudy advances his studies, and the family welcomes their son Ilham Akbar Habibie. They later relocate to Hamburg as opportunities unfold in Europe.

Seeking opportunities back home, Rudy is supported by Ibnu Sutowo and brought to Jakarta, where he organizes an engineering team. He also begins a public service career, eventually becoming a cabinet minister.

Rudy’s blueprint for an Indonesian-made aircraft gains official approval, signaling the start of a major national project. The team’s work culminates in the development of the N-250 program.

The N-250 achieves its maiden flight on 10 August 1995, drawing praise from locals and the press despite earlier skepticism. The successful flight is celebrated as a milestone for Indonesian engineering.

Ainun asks for a honeymoon, but the plans are delayed when Rudy takes an oath as Vice President, leaving him sleep-deprived and focused on national duties. The couple endures the postponement as their personal life intersects with public service.

Following the 1997 Asian financial crisis and the May 1998 riots, Suharto resigns and Habibie becomes President, initiating a reform era that draws both praise and criticism, including accusations of corruption.

Ainun’s cancer worsens but she keeps silent about her illness as Rudy bears the burden of leadership during a turbulent period of reform. The private pain contrasts with public duties and national change.

About a year into his presidency, Habibie resigns amid political turmoil, and the N-250 project loses momentum as public interest wanes. The setback showcases the challenges of reform and domestic upheaval.

After his resignation, Rudy and Ainun finally embark on their long-delayed honeymoon. They seek solace and shared time together amid the shadows of national and personal upheaval.

Rudy learns Ainun’s cancer has progressed to Stage IV and flies with his family to Munich, where Ainun is hospitalized at Universitätsklinikum Großhadern. Surgery initially appears successful, but the disease continues to spread.

Ainun dies on 22 May 2010, and Rudy returns to their home, where he imagines her presence, cherishing the memories they built together.

The film ends with a video of an aging Habibie visiting Ainun's grave, expressing that he will forever cherish the memories they built together and highlighting their enduring legacy.
