Agnes “Apple” Bailey, portrayed by Vanessa Hudgens, is a troubled 16-year-old girl whose life has been marked by heartbreak and abandonment. From the very beginning, she was left by her father before her birth and subjected to a series of traumatic experiences. As she grew up, her mother June, played by Rosario Dawson, lost custody of Apple multiple times, leading her into various foster care systems where she endured physical and sexual abuse. This unfortunate cycle of suffering culminates in her return to June, who continues the cycle of abuse herself.

Desperate for a change and seeking her father’s help, Apple makes her way to New Jersey to reach out to Tom, her wealthy father, skillfully played by Brendan Fraser, who works as a broker on Wall Street. Now married with two children, Tom is initially taken aback when he learns of Apple’s pregnancy. Faced with this revelation, Tom and his wife insist that she either terminate the pregnancy or leave their home—a choice that leads Apple to depart.

A sequence of events unfolds when she is involved in a near-fatal car crash, which lands her in the hospital. There, she meets Father McCarthy, brought to life by James Earl Jones, a compassionate figure who wishes to assist her. He introduces her to Kathy DiFiore, portrayed by Ann Dowd, who runs a shelter aimed at supporting pregnant teenagers. However, June has her own plans and attempts to reclaim Apple in order to exploit the unborn child for financial gain through Social Security.

Faced with the threat of returning to her toxic environment, Apple bravely chooses to embrace Kathy’s home. There, she experienced an unexpected sense of family, love, and support. Surrounded by other teen mothers and the unwavering dedication of Kathy, who has devoted two decades of her life to caring for young mothers, Apple begins to find the warmth and affection she has longed for throughout her turbulent journey.
