Ghost Graduation

The ghosts didn't ascend immediately after passing their exams because graduation alone wasn't enough to resolve their unfinished business. Each ghost had a deeper, personal issue that needed to be addressed: Dani had to confess to starting the fire and receive forgiveness from his friends, Ángela needed to finally perform歌唱 (sing) publicly, and the others still had their individual unresolved matters. Only after each ghost confronted their specific personal conflict did they achieve true closure and could ascend.

Dani started the fire in 1987 to get all five students out of detention before they died. He was trying to help his friends escape the punishment, but his reckless action ultimately trapped them inside the school when the fire broke out. Dani lived with guilt over this for twenty years, fearing his actions would condemn him to a bad place in the afterlife. His friends eventually forgave him, which allowed him to finally move on.

Ángela ascended because singing publicly was her deepest unfulfilled wish. In life, her parents forbade her from joining the school choir, telling her it would distract from her studies. She never got to share her voice with anyone. During Founder's Day, she possessed a living student and sang beautifully for the first time, fulfilling this long-held dream and allowing her to ascend.

Elsa tried to drown herself because she fell in love with Jorge, a ghost, through their Ouija board conversations. Determined to be with him in the afterlife, she attempted to take her own life so she could join him. Modesto fortunately found her in time and performed CPR to revive her, preventing her from dying.

Earlier scenes showed Jorge and Elsa connecting through supernatural communication, building to her desperate decision.

Modesto was born with the ability to see dead people, which the film presents as a paranormal gift. However, this ability has severely impacted his life, he's been fired from multiple teaching jobs and spent significant money on therapists who misunderstood his situation. Despite the personal cost, this gift eventually becomes his unique qualification for helping the five ghost students at Monforte School.

Pinfloy's unfinished business was his desire to go to Pacha, a famous nightclub. He was an avid Pink Floyd fan who died drunk and constantly experienced side effects like nausea and difficulty concentrating. Modesto and the other ghost students brought him to the school's party, where they convinced him it was Pacha. This final night of enjoyment allowed him to find closure and ascend.

Chema's letter contained devastating news that he didn't want to marry Mariví and wasn't sure if the child she was carrying was his. The letter was accidentally placed in Ángela's locker instead of Mariví's. Ángela initially kept it to get back at Mariví for some past conflict, but eventually returned it, revealing the painful truth about their relationship.

Mariví was pregnant when she died. Her labor pains represented the passage of time in the afterlife and signaled that her unborn child was also waiting to move on. This emotional subplot added depth to her character, showing that her unresolved business extended beyond her own life to include her expected child.

The five ghosts finally ascended after each one resolved their personal unfinished business. Dani received forgiveness for the fire, Ángela fulfilled her dream of singing, Pinfloy experienced his final night at Pacha, and the group came together. At the end, they all joined hands and ascended together into the next realm, finally finding peace.
