Teja is a high-profile gangster in North Madras who compounds his notoriety by mimicking animal behaviors for a sarcastic edge. Accompanied by his loyal gang, he arrives at a magistrate’s court for a hearing, where his antics draw snickers from the crowd and from Jeeva, another accused. Teja and his men strike back in brutal fashion, killing Jeeva right inside the courthouse. Jeeva was part of a rival gang led by Gemini, an ambitious upstart from Chintadripet who sees Teja as an obstacle to his own rise.
To avenge Jeeva’s death, Gemini hunts down the killer, tracking down Pandian, while his associate Isaac carries out the execution of the killer. The clash between Gemini and Teja quickly escalates into a broader feud, a ruthless battle for supremacy that drags in every corner of the underworld and politics alike. Pandian’s mother, Annamma, a destitute woman, learns who men murdered her son and decides to act. She tracks Gemini down, becomes the gang’s cook, and bides her time as she schemes to poison the gang and exact her own quiet revenge.
Meanwhile, Gemini meets and falls for a North Indian college girl, Manisha Natwarlal, a free-spirited student who captivates him with her openness and warmth. To win her, he enrolls in an evening class at her college, hoping to be close to her, while she falls in love with him, unaware of his true, dangerous identity. In another strand of the plot, two businessmen press Gemini to clear traders from a market so a shopping complex can go up on the site. Gemini refuses to let the market fall under his control, which prompts the businessmen to hire Teja to carry out their plan. Teja stages an altercation and uses his ally Kai as the inside man to derail Gemini’s opposition, foiling the conspiracy and deepening Teja’s fury at being outmaneuvered.
Singaperumal, a shrewd police officer, is elevated to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP) with a mission to wipe out crime. Yet his power is limited by political influence, and he decides to arrest Gemini and Teja “off the record.” He places them in a private cell, not to protect them, but to let them beat each other into submission. Gemini, frustrated by the market scheme and Teja’s aggression, persuades Teja to admit guilt and seek a chance to reform, a ruse that ultimately frees both men and resets the balance of power.
Manisha soon learns Gemini’s true identity and feels betrayed, sparking tension between love and loyalty. Yet Gemini begins to reform his ways to win her trust, and even his gang, initially resistant to change, gradually accepts his new path. Annamma’s revelation of her real identity adds another layer of complexity, but she ultimately forgives him and his crew. Singaperumal helps Gemini regain his footing in college, enabling a renewed relationship with Manisha, while Teja retreats back to his old life of crime, pressing Gemini to join him for financial gain. Gemini, however, refuses and exposes Teja to the law by informing Singaperumal of Teja’s narcotics trafficking, which lands Teja in prison.
Months pass, and Singaperumal is reassigned to a new post, replaced by a corrupt officer who arranges special privileges for Teja. The new DGP frees Teja and presses Gemini to return to their former criminal collaboration to repay the losses they incurred. Gemini refuses, choosing instead to guard his evolving conscience. In a bid to force him back, Teja recruits Isaac to plot against Gemini and literally removes Kai from the equation by orchestrating his murder. The two sides collide in a brutal confrontation: Gemini defeats Teja and swaps their clothes, leaving Teja bound and gagged so no one can tell who is who.
The situation reaches its bleakest moment when the new DGP arrives and, believing he is shooting Gemini, fires at him and mortally wounds him. He later discovers that the shot actually claimed Teja, who had been wearing Gemini’s clothes. Grief-stricken for the loss, the DGP realizes the grave mistake and learns he is being reassigned to the Sewage Control Board, a grim post that mirrors the sordid turn of events. In the end, Gemini’s arc resolves with him living a hopeful, if hard-won, life alongside Manisha, choosing a different path even as the city’s conflicts outside his door continue to simmer.

This movie summary FAQ helps explain confusing scenes, plot twists, and narrative decisions in clear, searchable detail.
Teja kills Jeeva because Jeeva mocked him during the court hearing. When Teja performed his signature animal-behavior mimicry for the crowd, Jeeva laughed at him along with others in the gallery. In retaliation, Teja ordered his gang to open fire, murdering Jeeva right inside the courthouse premises. This act directly triggers the escalating feud between Teja and Gemini, as Jeeva belonged to Gemini's rival gang.
Earlier, Teja's theatrical behavior and need for recognition foreshadows his explosive reaction to being mocked.
Gemini decides to avenge Jeeva because Jeeva was a member of his gang. In the underworld hierarchy, protecting one's gang members and responding to attacks is essential for maintaining power and reputation. When Teja kills Jeeva in such a bold, public manner, Gemini is obligated to respond to preserve his standing among his own men and to show Teja that such crossings will not go unanswered.
The film establishes early that Gemini is an ambitious upstart seeking to rise, making it imperative he responds to challenges.
Annamma joins Gemini's gang as their cook to exact quiet revenge for her son's murder. Her son Pandian was the killer that Gemini sent to eliminate Teja as retaliation for Jeeva's death. Knowing who murdered her son, Annamma approaches Gemini, pretends to be a destitute woman seeking employment, and gains access to the gang's kitchen where she plans to poison them all.
Annamma's initial appearance as a helpless mother conceals the dangerous intention simmering beneath.
Gemini enrolls in Manisha's evening college class because he falls in love with her when they meet. Wanting to be close to her and win her affection, he decides to join her college rather than approaching her directly in the dangerous world he inhabits. This represents his attempt to step into a normal, respectable life and connect with her on equal footing.
Their first meeting establishes Manisha's free-spirited nature, which contrasts sharply with Gemini's criminal world.
Manisha feels betrayed because Gemini concealed his true identity throughout their relationship. She fell in love with the version of him she believed was a regular student, not a dangerous gangster. When his arrest at the college reveals his criminal background, she realizes he deliberately lied about who he was, making her question whether any of their relationship was genuine.
The romance scenes show Manisha drawn to Gemini's warmth, making her eventual betrayal feel like a profound personal violation.
Singaperumal places Gemini and Teja in a private cell because he wants them to kill each other without official police involvement. Though promoted to DGP with a mission to eliminate crime, his power is limited by political influence protecting both gangsters. By confining them together, he creates an opportunity for them to settle their feud through violence while he maintains plausible deniability.
Singaperumal's elevation to DGP is marked by political constraints, hinting at his manipulative, shadow-game approach.
Gemini persuades Teja to plead guilty and request a chance to reform by framing it as their best escape route. With Singaperumal watching and no other way out, Gemini suggests that admitting guilt and showing willingness to change might convince the court to release them. Teja agrees, not realizing Gemini's plan would reset their status and free them both. The trick works, and both gangsters walk free.
Gemini's persuasive ability and cunning are established early as key traits that give him advantage over more impulsive rivals.
Gemini refuses to return to crime primarily because of his love for Manisha and his genuine desire to reform. Having experienced a different way of life through his relationship with her and having seen the possibility of change, he chooses to pursue an honest future. Additionally, he exposes Teja to the law by informing Singaperumal about Teja's narcotics trafficking, demonstrating his commitment to staying on the right path.
The arc of Gemini's reform is seeded when he first enrolls in college, marking his first concrete step toward a different life.
In the climactic confrontation, Gemini and Teja physically swap their clothes. When the corrupt DGP arrives, he believes he is shooting Gemini and fires at the man wearing Gemini's clothes. However, that person is actually Teja, who has been shot and mortally wounded. The DGP later realizes his mistake when he discovers the victim is Teja, not Gemini.
The clothes swap during the fight is a deliberate strategic move by Gemini, showing his cunning even in desperation.
The DGP shoots the wrong person because he cannot distinguish between Gemini and Teja after they swap clothes during their fight. Believing he is eliminating the criminal Gemini, he fires at the figure wearing Gemini's clothes. Only after the shot does he realize he has actually killed Teja, who had switched outfits with Gemini during their confrontation.
The chaotic fight scene and the clothing swap create the confusion that enables this tragic misidentification.
Annamma eventually forgives Gemini and his gang after witnessing his genuine transformation toward a better life. She sees that Gemini has truly changed his ways, helping his gang members reform and choosing an honest path over crime. This change convinces her that exacting further revenge would serve no purpose, leading her to reveal her true identity and offer forgiveness.
Annamma's time with the gang allows her to observe their gradual transformation firsthand, softening her vengeful heart.
Teja recruits Isaac to plot against Gemini because he wants to force Gemini back into crime or eliminate him. With Gemini refusing to rejoin Teja's criminal operations and choosing to live honestly with Manisha, Teja sees this as a betrayal and a threat to his power. By enlisting Isaac, who was once Gemini's associate, Teja hopes to gain inside knowledge and successfully bring Gemini down.
Isaac's previous loyalty to Gemini makes his recruitment by Teja a significant act of betrayal.
