Holden Latter, [Riccardo Cicogna], the biggest video game creator, sits down for an interview and speaks of a bold dream: a virtual world where the impossible becomes possible, a universe where a player can uncover anything they search for.

Francesco (an 18-year-old hacker) leads a tangled life. He endures relentless trouble at school from a bully named Daniele Sodano as he contends with a mother who has pushed his father away, a father who has started a new relationship with a younger woman, and a steady watch by psychologists. The pressure builds not just at school but at home, shaping Francesco into someone who drifts toward the very digital escape he’s about to stumble upon.

Giovanni emerges as Francesco’s friend and fellow gamer, spending endless hours in front of a computer and a PlayStation. His older brother—an oriental meditation teacher—tries to guide him away from excess and toward balance, a backdrop that will soon collide with Francesco’s reckless curiosity. The film’s tension hinges on how these relationships bend under the pull of something bigger than any of them.

One day Francesco discovers an Easter egg embedded in a program created by Holden and, in a moment of audacious hacking, uncovers coordinates that lead beneath the city. There, he finds one of humanity’s most astonishing inventions: a device that, through a direct brain connection, can transport a person’s consciousness into a living, breathing video game. The device is described as a dreamlike Saturn—composed of concentric rings of levels—the user moving between rings via a shuttle elevator. Within this virtual cosmos, Francesco can conjure almost anything, bending the rules of reality inside a hyperreal landscape.

The following morning Francesco begins what he dubs Game Therapy with Giovanni, who is uploaded into Assassin’s Creed while Francesco sits outside the VR world, connected to a console. Giovanni learns to steer and push his avatar beyond ordinary human limits. To push his training further, Francesco sends him into Call of Duty, where a nonlethal injury translates into harm for Giovanni’s real-life consciousness. A fatal mistake in the virtual arena means there is no simple return to the real world, and the only option is to reboot one’s life with the knowledge gained inside the game. After these sessions, the two friends arrange more appointments, increasingly entangled in a dangerous experiment.

As the sessions unfold, Giovanni falls for Danika, and their relationship deepens even as the line between game and reality blurs. Inside Just Dance, Giovanni is humiliated because he can’t keep up with the dance moves; in GTA V, he unexpectedly becomes a hero by rescuing a little girl amid a chaotic street conflict. Yet deeper conflicts stir: in Uncharted, Francesco and Giovanni uncover a mysterious presence—a Spectrum, a virus-like entity that seems to exist beyond the games themselves. The Spectrum schemes to trap Giovanni in a cube-prison, severing his consciousness from his body and forcing a coma-like state in the real world. Francesco intervenes with an Emergency Evacuation maneuver to extract him, revealing Francesco’s true motive: the hunt for the Multiverse’s key, a doorway that could let a player seize control of every reality.

As the two push onward, they realize Holden’s creation isn’t a simple villain’s tool but a conduit to something larger. The duo journeys into a battlefield—a multiplayer crossroads called Battlefield—where they confront the Spectrum and discover Holden’s role is more complicated than a straightforward thirst for power. Holden’s coordinates were planted as a trap to lure someone brave enough to access the Multiverse, and the two friends realize the path to the key may also imprison Holden within the digital labyrinth.

The adventure crescendos in the Master Console, an interstellar space where every game code and data stream are created. Holden wields a physical grip on Giovanni’s fate, and a brutal clash ends with Giovanni briefly gaining the upper hand by severing Holden’s grip on his own origin. Giovanni uses a decisive strike to pull Holden’s source code into a trap, but in a final twist Holden launches a dagger that destroys Giovanni’s avatar and returns him to the real world. Francesco remains inside the Master Console, determined to keep Holden’s glitch from ending the game and to secure the key to save the Multiverse. He chooses a radical path: with the key, he becomes the Master Gamer, a being who controls the fabric of the digital realm at the cost of never returning to the real world. The Multiverse survives, but Francesco’s act leaves him as code rather than a person.

Back in the real world, Giovanni makes a remarkable turn of events: he passes his school tests, mends the strained relationships with his family, and rekindles his connection with Danika. The story closes on a note of difficult redemption, the price of power weighed against the value of ordinary life, and the hope that even when realms collide, human bonds can endure.
