Gamera vs. Jiger

Japan accelerates preparations for Expo '70 in Osaka as pavilions and infrastructure rise. The looming exposition provides a bustling backdrop that frames the international attention and engineering efforts. Tension and ambition simmer as the country readies for a landmark event.

Scientists locate a large, mysterious statue known as the Devil's Whistle on Wester Island in the Pacific. Its origin and purpose remain unknown, but its presence immediately attracts curious and wary attention. People speculate on the statue's possible influence on the surrounding environment.

Removal attempts are first blocked by a Wester Island tribal member, signaling the statue's sacred or dangerous significance. The arrival of Gamera interrupts the proceedings as he aggressively tries to prevent its removal. The crew counteracts by firing at Gamera, escalating the confrontation.

The statue is finally moved from Wester Island, aided by the dramatic eruption of a volcano. The volcanic activity appears to assist the removal, underscoring the statue's dangerous influence. The island's turmoil reverberates with the ongoing exodus to safety.

Shortly after leaving the island, crew members begin to fall ill. A piercing, continuous sound emanating from the statue seems to drive many toward insanity. The ship's atmosphere grows tense as investigators scramble for explanation.

Jiger makes her first appearance and immediately draws Gamera's attention. In the ensuing battle, Jiger fires quills from her face, leaving Gamera immobilized. He regains mobility by pulling himself up with his tail and a rock, enabling him to fly again.

Jiger pursues the statue because the terrifying ringing pains her, and she unveils a heat ray that vaporizes flesh and city blocks. The JSDF launches a token counterattack, but her quills knock down the F-104 Starfighters, stalling efforts to stop her.

Gamera returns for round two and is outmatched until Jiger drags him with her stinger, injecting an egg inside his lung. Gamera staggers away and collapses, his body turning chalky white as he seems to die. Jiger heads toward Expo '70 to secure her prize.

A medical exam reveals a dark spot on Gamera's lung, puzzling researchers. A veteran zoo director surmises it might be a parasitic infant Jiger rather than a fast-spreading cancer. An operation is deemed necessary to remove the threat.

The children commandeer a walkie-talkie and a mini-sub to enter Gamera’s mouth and reach the problem lung. They navigate through the creature’s anatomy and locate the infant Jiger. The discovery confirms the parasite's existence and sets the stage for its removal.

The baby Jiger attacks, but the children learn its weakness is white noise, much like its mother. They kill the infant by delivering static from their walkie-talkies. The team then exits Gamera and reports back to the scientists.

Scientists rig large speakers to emit white noise around Jiger, keeping her immobilized long enough for the plan. They also route power to Gamera, enabling his revival. The children assist in coordinating the operation.

With Jiger temporarily immobilized by the white noise, Gamera awakens and heads toward the World's Fair for the final confrontation. Jiger tests all of her weapons, but the scene remains tense as both monsters prepare for the climactic battle.

Jiger unleashes her heat ray and stinger, but Gamera's shell and resilience withstand the heat. He protects his ears with telephone poles embedded in his head to cope with the sonic assault. He finally uses a building to smash the stinger and gains the upper hand.

Gamera dives into the ocean to retrieve the statue from the sea floor and returns to the battle. He taunts Jiger and finally hurls the statue at her, embedding it in Jiger's skull and killing her. The devil beast's carcass is brought back to Wester Island.
