Gamera 2: Attack of Legion

A large meteor crashes in Hokkaido one year after the prior battle. The JGSDF is dispatched to investigate the crash site. Unbeknownst to the investigation team, several insect-like extraterrestrial creatures have emerged from the meteor.

Telecommunication failures draw attention from NTT engineers. They discover that underground lines in the affected area have been completely removed, forming a straight path heading south from the crash site. Obitsu notes this suspicious route and raises the alarm about a coordinated attack.

The insect-like aliens reach Sapporo and attack the city’s subway system. They establish a hive in the tunnel network, threatening commuters and infrastructure. Authorities scramble to contain the invasion.

A pod rises from the ground at the crash site and begins releasing a surge of oxygen into the surrounding air. The scientists deduce it is a biological launch pad intended to seed a planet by boosting explosive potential in the launch. Destroying the pod without caution could devastate the area.

Gamera rises from the ocean to confront the hive and uproots the pod in a bid to prevent its launch. He is swarmed by the alien creatures and overwhelmed, forcing him to retreat back into the open.

With Gamera pushed back, a larger creature emerges from underground to seed a second hive, giving rise to the Legion. The Legion begins to spread toward Sendai.

The Legion moves toward Sendai, prompting Watarase to order Honami to evacuate. In the chaos, Honami meets Asagi Kusanagi, a teenage girl with a psychic connection to Gamera, revealing a crucial link between human and monster.

In Sendai, Honami evacuates as Gamera and the Legion Queen clash. The Queen wounds Gamera and stalls the fight long enough for the evacuation to continue, then retreats back underground.

Gamera destroys the pod before it can launch, but the resulting explosion devastates Sendai and seemingly kills Gamera.

Watarase, Obitsu, and Honami conclude the Legion are silicon-based and attracted to electromagnetic sources. They deduce Tokyo will be the next target and begin planning to cut EM access to slow the swarm.

Asagi returns to the Sendai Station ruins to seek help reviving Gamera. She connects with him and he is revived, but their psychic bond is severed when her amulet shatters.

With the prime minister ordering full JSDF mobilization to halt the Legion, defense forces converge to trap the creatures near a power plant. Gamera battles the Legion Queen while the soldiers target the smaller creatures; he rips off the Queen’s horns, but she retaliates with laser whips. He taps into the mana of humans to unleash a plasma cannon from his chest, destroying the Queen.

With the Queen defeated, Gamera flies off into the sky as Asagi watches sadly and bids him farewell. The bond between Gamera and Asagi lingers, though their connection was severed when her amulet shattered.
