Free Jimmy

They watch a news story about a lab break-in and are drawn into Roy Arnie's plan to join the circus. He promises easy money and a way out from gangster Ivan, seducing the trio with the glamour of show business.

The traveling Russian circus, led by an incompetent Ringmaster Igor Stromowski, drifts into Norway. The troupe is dilapidated, with tired performers and animals kept in drugged condition, setting a grim mood for the new arrivals.

Roy reveals he has stolen seven kilograms of heroin from the Russian mafias and intends to smuggle it out using the circus as a front. His brutal method involves cutting an incision in Jimmy's buttocks, stashing the drugs inside, and sewing him back up.

Jimmy the elephant is kept on speed to perform and Roy administers heroin at night to sedate him. The animal is paranoid of the police, missing half his tusk, and in a vulnerable, deteriorating state.

Jimmy accidentally receives speed instead of heroin and bolts through a door left ajar. Flea hijacks a windshield-less van to chase the elephant as it disappears toward the frozen moor.

Three Sámi bikers, part of the Laplander motorcycle gang hired by the Russian mafias, tail the smugglers to reclaim the heroin and settle scores. The chase grows more dangerous as other threats close in.

Redneck-style Scottish big-game hunters close in, hoping to shoot a larger animal. The bikers arrive at a log cabin occupied by an elderly Asian-American couple, kill the couple, and torture the four to reveal Jimmy’s whereabouts.

The elephant's condition worsens until a benevolent moose befriends him, guiding him to water, food, and shelter, and offering him a stubborn, life-affirming chance at recovery.

On the moor, the groups collide in a cascade of violence. The moose distracts the hunters, a motorbike rider is killed, and Marius’s activist faction is wiped out by a grenade.

Roy lures Jimmy with more drugs, but the elephant resists. Jimmy steps on Karma, Sonia’s dog, and Sonia shoots Jimmy through the original incision, causing the heroin to burst and killing him.

The stoners attempt to salvage the heroin from Jimmy but fail. A rockfall, caused by the moose, buries the elephant’s body, ensuring it cannot be exploited.

The trio flee the scene, turning on Roy as they go. Roy, consumed by remorse, trudges back toward the moors to find Jimmy and disappears into a terrible blizzard, calling out 'Jimmy' into the wind.

The tale closes with a warning about treating sentient beings as mere means to an end. A solitary moose remains the quiet hero, embodying rescue, resilience, and the sobering cost of human ambition.
