What Happens at the End of Following?

How Following (2024) ends, what the final scene means, which earlier moments set it up and how to read the ending if the film leaves it open. The full ending explained, with every spoiler.

Following ends with the truth behind Han So‑ra’s “murder” finally exposed. After Gu Jeong‑Tae discovers that the woman he thought was dead is actually alive, he learns she had hired the YouTuber Holugi to send him threatening messages and fabricate evidence, hoping to pin the crime on him. So‑ra’s sister confirms that their sister had long been a fraud—she staged the charitable stray‑adoption campaign, poisoned the animals, and even sold her own daughter, earning sympathy and online fame by portraying herself as a victim.

Realising he is being used as a pawn, Jeong‑Tae confesses his own stalking offenses to Officer Oh Young‑joo, begging for a chance to clear his name. Moved by his desperation, the officer agrees to set a trap: they plant false incriminating material and threaten to reveal So‑ra’s deceptions the way she once weaponized the internet. When So‑ra appears to confront Jeong‑Tae, she boasts about the murders she committed—including the death of a karaoke singer whose body is later found in a trash‑laden trail—while attempting to silence him. Before she can escape, Officer Oh bursts in and arrests her, the recorded confession leaving no room for denial.

Jeong‑Tae is also taken into custody for his illegal intrusions, though his crimes are far less severe. In the film’s epilogue, So‑ra serves her sentence, a reporter interviewing her about the very lifestyle she once glorified, highlighting society’s fascination with criminals. Months later, Jeong‑Tae, now released on parole, visits Officer Oh to thank her for believing him when he was most vulnerable; she urges him to rebuild his life, reminding the audience that second chances are rare. The closing scenes leave a stark warning about the dangers of digital anonymity and the fragile line between voyeurism and victimhood.
