Air Force pilot John Sands is imprisoned in a military detention center as his memory is set to be chemically wiped. His superiors fear the hidden knowledge he gained from sensitive operations. A tense escape sets the stage for a high-stakes mission that could prove his innocence or doom him further.

General Tom Barnes learns Sands was arrested after a roadside robbery while on assignment, and he discovers Sands was Ratcher's former trainer. Barnes orders Sands to Northern Afghanistan and pairs him with Rick Jannick to recover the X-77. Meanwhile, Admiral Pendleton on a Gulf of Arabia carrier keeps a ready force on standby should a direct assault be necessary.

Before Sands and Jannick reach Afghanistan, a Navy SEAL team planted to meet them is wiped out by Eliana Reed. Reed then kidnaps Jannick and delivers him into the hands of Peter Stone, the man who funded Ratcher's bid to steal the X-77. The operation's complexity deepens as the players realize the stakes are greater than a single theft.

In a village near Stone's compound, Sands reconnects with Jessica and Rojar. They begin to see the broader backstory: Stone's Muslim-born upbringing, his Oxford education, and the formation of the Black Sunday group. Eliana Reed acts as Stone's second in command, coordinating guerrilla networks that underpin the operation.
