Fish n’ Chips

Andy works at a fish and chip shop in London along with his German girlfriend Karin and her daughter Emma. His Turkish-Cypriot boss Hassan, who prefers to be called Jimmy, keeps a close watch on every order. Andy's elderly mother, suffering from dementia, keeps wandering off and imagining that she is returning to her homeland.

Seeing a chance to give his mother a rest and to offer Karin and Emma a break, Andy arranges a trip to Cyprus. He hopes the change of scenery will calm his mother's confusion and provide a welcome escape for everyone. The vacation becomes a test of how far the family can go together.

Jimmy, who depends on Andy's skill and phenomenal output, clashes with the plan and fires him and Karin. The sudden loss of work shocks the trio and foreshadows tougher times ahead.

Andy, Karin, and Emma travel to Cyprus to visit family and recover from the setback. They stay with Andy's brother Anestis and his family, hoping for a holiday that doubles as a fresh start.

Andy is persuaded by Anestis to open a fish and chip shop on the Cypriot beach. He imagines a successful venture, convinced that Karin and Emma will be happy and that life will improve.

The business collapses when the beach is mostly frequented by Cypriots who are not big consumers of fish and chips. The failure strains the relationships within the family and pushes Andy to cling to a plan that isn't working.

Misery and conflict rise between Andy and Anestis, and between Karin and Emma as money runs out. Andy refuses to face reality and stubbornly tries to keep the shop afloat, ignoring the warning signs.

Karin and Emma decide to return to London to seek their previous jobs with Jimmy. They leave Cyprus with mixed emotions, hoping to reclaim stability.

Meanwhile Andy's mother continues to roam and ends up inside her own house in Northern Cyprus. The house is now owned by a retired British woman, a situation that emerged after Anestis secretly sold it behind Andy's back.

Andy discovers that his real father is Jimmy, not the Turks who died in the war. The revelation reframes his understanding of his family and his loyalties.

The hidden love story between Andy's mother and Jimmy forces him to confront his own prejudices about Turkish-Cypriots. He begins to question his long-standing beliefs about homeland and identity.

Realising that he has been a tourist in his own country, Andy decides that home is where he belongs. He prepares to return to London to start anew.

Back in London, Andy finds that Jimmy is planning to retire and to hand over ownership of the fish shop. The news signals a new chapter and a chance for Andy to finally put down roots.
