Blanche Tyler, a fake psychic, teams up with her boyfriend George Lumley to embark on a mysterious quest. Their objective is to locate the long-lost nephew of Julia Rainbird, a wealthy woman who aims to reclaim her heir and has offered a $10,000 reward for his return.

As they delve into the case, George uncovers that the boy, named Edward Shoebridge, is believed to have died young. This discovery raises questions, especially when George finds clues suggesting that Edward's grave may, in fact, be empty.

George's investigation leads him to Joseph Maloney, who had previously paid for Edward's gravestone. This connection heightens George's suspicions, as he begins to suspect Maloney is aware of more than he lets on about Edward's fate.

Unbeknownst to Blanche and George, Edward has reemerged as Arthur Adamson, a successful jeweler in San Francisco. Arthur is secretly orchestrating a series of high-profile kidnappings alongside his girlfriend, Fran, capitalizing on his newfound wealth and influence.
