Eye for an Eye

In the climactic hours the curse that haunts the town finally exacts its price. After Connor is thrown from the bridge, Shawn tries to erase his name from the old tree, but the bark refuses; the supernatural force known as Mr. Sandman reacts. When Shawn defiles the trunk, a pair of gnarled hands seize his eyes, ripping them from his sockets, and in a frantic scramble he slams his head against a tree, dying instantly.

Julie meets a similarly gruesome fate. Exhausted from sleepless nightmares, she slips into a bathtub; the specter appears, pulls out her eyeball and, in the struggle, she crashes head‑first into the tub’s edge, killing herself within seconds.

Back at the house, May—who has been convinced that Vincent, the spirit of the boy who became Mr. Sandman, will trade her sight for Anna’s—drugs and binds her granddaughter. When May attempts to gouge out Anna’s eyes, Anna breaks free and, using a pair of scissors, slices May’s eyes instead. The wounded May staggers to the landing, where Patty arrives, only for May to seize the scissors and stab Patty in the eye; both women tumble down the stairs and die, the old rivalry finally ending in blood.

Meanwhile, Anna is tormented by visions of the original tragedy: a blind boy named Vincent whose classmates stole his glass eyes and killed him. In one nightmare she reads the “eye for an eye” commandment and realizes she must suffer a comparable wound. She hammers her own arm until it breaks, then, in a dream‑like trance, finds two glass eyes in the forest. Entering the massive tree that houses Vincent’s spirit, she offers those eyes to him, granting the closure he has long sought. The offering appeases the vengeful entity, and Vincent dissolves into sand, freeing the town from his retribution.

When Anna awakens, her vision is intact and her name has vanished from the carved bark, signifying that the curse has been lifted for her. She survived by confronting her guilt, enduring a self‑inflicted wound, and extending compassion to the boy whose soul had been bound to the tree. The film ends with the implication that, while the specific vengeance has ceased, the legend of Mr. Sandman lingers as a warning to any future bullies.
