Ewa Bonecka, a young student about to begin her studies in an unfamiliar town, is turned down for a room at a women‑only hotel and ends up without a place to stay. A friendly policeman named Piotr assists her as she searches the odd, bustling town, navigating its mix of petty thieves and other troublemakers in hopes of finding lodging.
