A is a traveling spirit who wakes up each day inside the body of a different teenager, learning to navigate how a single life can look through many different lives. This daily switch unfolds a quiet, intimate drama about love, identity, and the difficult question of what it means to be true to someone you’re with when your body keeps changing.
The first day begins in Justin, the neglectful boyfriend of Rhiannon. In this version of the day, A is pulled into a relationship with Rhiannon at school, convincing her to skip class. As the hours pass, A discovers that Rhiannon’s home life is troubled: her father has suffered a mental breakdown, and the family is close to losing their home. The connection between them deepens, and by the end of the day, A hints that tomorrow could be different, while Rhiannon, hopeful for a change, asks that today end on a “nice note.” That moment leaves Rhiannon with a sense that Justin’s heart might be changing, even if she suspects a new kind of care is stirring.
The next day brings a jarring turn: Justin is back, and Rhiannon finds that he has no memory of the previous day. A then wakes in the body of Amy and, determined to stay close to Rhiannon, pretends to be an exchange student. The pattern continues as A shifts again, waking as Nathan at a party where a new bond with Rhiannon forms. They dance and talk, and A gently tells her that she deserves more than Justin. The moment is interrupted when Justin chases A away, complicating the fragile connection.
A few days later, A reaches out to meet Rhiannon again, who mistakenly believes she is meeting Nathan. Instead, A arrives as Megan and reveals the truth: A has lived in multiple bodies—Justin, Amy, and Nathan among them—and has fallen for Rhiannon. Rhiannon’s initial caution gives way to curiosity, and she agrees to meet again, opening a doorway to something unpredictable yet real.
A dramatic turn comes when A, in the body of James, reveals the depth of the daily swaps: A has been shifting bodies since infancy and even shows a private Instagram account filled with pictures taken in every form A has worn. Through this account, Rhiannon can communicate with A in a way she never could before. A meeting with Nathan reinforces the strange truth when Nathan believes he was possessed by the devil, and Rhiannon realizes that A’s presence is not a fantasy but a living possibility. In the body of Vic, a transgender classmate, A convinces Rhiannon that the core is a matter of soul and feeling rather than the body she inhabits. After careful consideration, Rhiannon agrees to continue exploring what they have.
The pair grow bolder when A wakes inside Rhiannon herself, treating this day as an opportunity to truly understand her. A vows to respect Rhiannon’s privacy and her life—no breaking up with Justin and no intruding on her most intimate moments. During this day, A forms bonds with Rhiannon’s family—her mother, sister, and father—sharing space and quiet moments that reveal new facets of Rhiannon’s world.
The following day, Rhiannon finds the courage to end things with Justin. She asks A for a weekend trip to her uncle’s cabin, a chance to test what they could be. A, in Xavier’s body, reflects on the day spent inside Rhiannon’s body and suggests that leaving a visible mark could validate A’s existence for others, while A simultaneously worries about altering the memories of those they touch. The emotional tangle continues as they share a goodbye kiss, and Rhiannon plans to return the next day, only to be left waiting while A’s body undergoes medical changes—this time, a lung transplant in the body of another.
As their bond deepens, A and Rhiannon explore the idea of permanence and choice, growing more intimate while acknowledging the impossibility of a life lived entirely inside someone else’s skin. They resolve to figure out how to stay together, even as the realities of bodies and circumstances tug them in different directions.
A dramatic pivot arrives when A awakens in the body of Kelsea, a classmate struggling with suicidal thoughts. Rhiannon urges A to hold on long enough to get help, and A succeeds in securing Kelsea’s life long enough for her father to be alerted. This act of preservation leads Rhiannon to ask A to remain in the body of Alexander, hoping for stability and a sustainable path forward. Yet the pressure of occupying another person’s life proves too heavy, and A recognizes that a permanent arrangement would be unfair to everyone involved.
Left alone with Rhiannon at Alexander’s house, A speaks plainly about the practical limits of their romance. They cannot realistically be together forever, A argues, because Alexander would be the better match for Rhiannon in the long run. They share one last night together, and as midnight approaches, A whispers a line that echoes the earlier “nice note” moment:
this is the nice note—a bittersweet acknowledgment of the relationship’s fragility and the price of their extraordinary connection.
The next day, A finds themselves in the body of Katie and wheels toward New York, while Rhiannon remains with Alexander at school, carrying the weight of what their relationship has become. The journey that began with a simple wish for a warmer day ends with a choice about what comes next, a choice that leaves both A and Rhiannon forever altered by the strange, tender rhythm of a life lived in many bodies.
Through it all, the film remains a quiet meditation on love beyond appearances, the ethics of inhabiting another person’s life, and the fragile beauty of choosing to be with someone even when the body you inhabit is not your own.
